Each time you reach a milestone birthday 1,2,3 with your toddler it is a wonderful occasion, an opportunity to invite little guests, your friends and family members to celebrate with you. However, planning the perfect party for your little one can be quite a task with so much to organise and prepare before the party date. We all want our children to have beautiful parties, filled with fun, magic and memories, but without any of the stress, so we’ve gone to the straight to the experts at Wish Upon A Party for some fabulous ideas and top tips to help you get started…
What kind of party are you planning?
Planning a toddler birthday can be as low key or full on as you like! Many people choose to celebrate a first birthday with a huge family celebration, and others just a family tea and a toast to the birthday child!
We have some fabulous party suggestions for you to consider:
Teddy Bears Picnic Party
Perfect for Spring or Summer birthdays – invite little guests to join you for an informal picnic and bring along their favourite teddy! Adults can join in too! Lovely to hear the ‘Grown ups’ telling stories of their favourite teddy from their own childhood and lovely for pictures!
Teddy Bears Picnics can be hosted in a local park or your own garden – blankets for sitting on, plates of sharing food and disposable cups and cutlery make for an easy hosting opportunity!
Cake Smash Party
As is tradition for a first birthday, invite extended family and friends to join you for a fabulous photo opportunity – the cake smash!
Simply sit your little one opposite a gorgeously gooey cake and watch the magic unfold! Perfect for photo opportunities!
- Top Tip: remember a cake for your guests to enjoy too!
Traditional birthday party
Why not invite a highly recommended entertainer to provide age appropriate entertainment for your little guests? Wish Upon A Party provides a classic party plan with traditional party favourites, including dance routines, classic party games, parachute games, pass the parcel, competitions, bubbles, and much more!
Choosing a venue for your event will be dependent on the amount of guests you want to invite and the time of year. If it’s just a few little friends you might decide to have a party at home or in the garden. If you plan to invite a large amount of extended family and friends then you might think about hiring a local hall or a venue such as a café with a function room, to help with the catering and clearing up!
Are you going to supply the food yourself or employ caterers? Are there any children or adult guests with dietary requirements? Our advice is to keep the food simple and fun – most little ones are going to be too busy to get their five-a-day during the party meal, so go for food that is quick to prepare and not too messy!
- Top tip: Don’t forget the birthday cake!
Party favours are a fantastic way for your guests to remember your event and mark a birthday in style- even for your adult guests! We love sweetie cones and personalised keepsakes; mugs, photo frames, fridge magnets – even keyrings for adult guests and personalised pots of bubbles or teddy bears for little ones!
