What is 3D Secure?
 

3D Secure is a new technical standard developed by Visa and MasterCard to further secure Customer Not Present (CNP) transactions over the internet.

Mastercard brand their system as 'MasterCard SecureCode' and Visa call theirs 'Verified by Visa'. Maestro cards are also supported through the MasterCard service.

Babyworld in conjunction with our 3rd party payment provider SagePay have implemented this system into our online shop. 3D secure is not a panacea to internet fraud and we will continue to use all of our existing fraud prevention measures.

What does this mean to you?

1. When you shop on babyworld you may experience an extra page in the checkout process which is generated by your credit card issuer.

The checkout process goes as normal up to the checkout page below before you click the 'process' button. If your card is not in the 3D secure scheme you will proceed as normal and the next page you will see is the babyworld confirmation page.

2. New pages from your card issuer:

If your card is enabled in the 3D secure scheme, after clicking 'process' you will be taken to a page from your card issuer for example barclaycard.

At this point you will need to enter the alpha numeric characters for your password which you have previously setup with your card issuer.

Note: You should check that the 'personal message' matches what you set up with your card issuer as this proves that the page is coming from your card provider.

3. After you've entered your details with your card issuer.

Once you have entered the correct details and clicked the submit button the payment returns to our shop payment gateway for processing as before. If the details are correct your order should be confirmed.

Note: 3D Secure is just one part of our fraud prevention process. Your billing address must match the address on your credit card statement for your transaction to be processed.

4. Forgotten your password.

If you have forgotten your 3D secure password or you haven't registered with the 3D Secure system the page from your card provider will give you various help links. For example:

Note: your password is submitted to your card issuer not to babyworld. You should never allow anyone to know your password details and no online merchant should ever ask you for it.

5. Completeing your transaction

Once you have clicked 'OK' your transaction will continue and if the card is authorised you should see a page from babyworld that will say 'Order Confirmation'. You should also receive an email (providing your email address is valid) confirming the transaction.
