Welcome to babyworld news July 2006

The mums-to-be who visit babyworld are all so different; we hear from women who are blissfully happy to be teenage mums, while others are pregnant for first time at 35, and have lived life to the full, before starting a family. And of course, they all have plenty to say on the subject of pregnancy. This perhaps explains why our antenatal clubs and pregnancy forums are constantly buzzing, as literally hundreds of mums-to-be are comparing notes, swapping tips and advice and generally telling it how it is! So, it perhaps won't come as a surprise that our first babyworld book will be on the subject of pregnancy, as having a baby is a time when you need those insiders' tips more than ever. So, what's my pregnancy tip, I hear you ask? Well, if you have a stubborn baby that refuses to move and is making life very uncomfortable for you with his elbow in your ribs or his feet on your bladder - eat something cold. It worked every time for me!

News from the babyworld shop team

The sun may be out but you're all still shopping 'til you drop at the babyworld shop. If you haven't yet been fortunate enough to go away and are still looking for those last minute holiday items, we've still got plenty of oh-so-practical summer products in our Sun & Sea section.

It's been a long wait but finally our shop is stocked to the brim with doomoo seats, but make sure you get in quick as they are sure to disappear fast! Last but not least, the newest member to our shop is the much talked about Jane Twin Two, this is the all singing and all dancing tandem, which gives you so many options that you're unlikely to ever need another double pushchair. If you're family is slightly smaller and you like your city life - you need to check out the NEW Jane Energy, an ultra lightweight pushchair which makes travelling with baby a breeze.

Here are the individual reviews

FORUM OF THE MONTH

The Teenage and Young Parents' forum has been moderated for many years by Annie Hanson (stay at home mum and trainee teacher) and more recently by Mel Angel too (mum of five, confessed BW addict and studying Applied Social Sciences). This double act juggles the forum that has seen a big increase in visitors in the last 2 years thanks to their supportive stewardship.

Annie says that the most rewarding part of moderating this forum is "seeing people go from scared teenagers into confident parents". Annie remembers one particular member who joined the forum when she was 16 years old and pregnant " she was scared, excited and worried about disappointing her parents and missing out on her education.

She kept her pregnancy secret from her parents for a very long time, until she was 25 weeks. She got lots of advice and support from the girls on the forum and we all waited with baited breath to see how her parents would react. Luckily things went well and her parents were very good. Everyone had seen the pregnancy through from the beginning with her and was very excited when baby Luke arrived. Ellis still posts every day but is able to share the benefits of her own experiences and that element of sharing is what it is all about."

Here are some of the most popular topics discussed on the Teenage and Young Parents' forum

1. How do you cope being a single and young parent mum?

2. What type of pushchair should I get?

3. When should I reduce my baby's bottles?

4. Should I start a new relationship?

5. What should I do about custody issues?

6. What reactions did you/do you get to being a young parent?

He's having a nice sleep

The only thing more taboo than sex in British culture is death. On the first anniversary of 7/7, we ask why do we have a thing about death? And, for the sake of our children, should we be more open about it? Click here>>
