Celebrate Grandparents' Day with £10 travel anywhere railfare

Train operators First Great Western and First Great Western Link are celebrating National Grandparents' Day on September 24th with an unprecedented two-day ticket promotion, offering tens of thousands of seats for just £10 return.

The £10 fare is valid on all services run by the two companies on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September.

It allows customers return travel anywhere on the companies' routes in South West England, South Wales, the Thames Valley, London, the North Downs and the Cotswolds for the same flat fare.

With each £10 adult fare, up to four children aged between five and 15 can travel for just £1 each and under-fives travel free. At least two adults or one adult and one child must travel together.

The Head of Marketing for First Great Western, Tamara Reay said: "We offer a range of value fares all year round, but wanted to do something truly exceptional for National Grandparents' Day.

"This two-day £10 flat fare offer fits the bill, and we believe it will be hugely popular."

The offer allows grandparents who live in the same area as their grandchildren to spend a day out together while for families who live some distance apart, the £10 flat fare makes it easy and cheap to pay a visit for the special weekend.

The First Great Western and First Great Western Link network covers some of the most popular destinations for days out in the country.

Tamara continued, "There are a huge number of interesting places to visit and things to do in our region.

"From South Wales and its vibrant capital of Cardiff, to picturesque market towns and coastline in Devon and Cornwall, bustling Bristol, the Georgian city of Bath, historic Royal Berkshire, the rolling Cotswolds, the dreaming spires of Oxford, through to London's top attractions. Best of all, getting there and back will cost just £10."

The £10 tickets are only on sale at stations in the First Great Western and First Great Western Link region. Reservations, which are compulsory, can be made until 1800 on the day before travel and customers must travel on the services on which they have made reservations. While tens of thousands of seats are available at the offer price, some services are expected to be extremely popular and so early booking is strongly recommended.

The £10 flat fare covers Standard Class return travel, but families wishing to treat themselves can take advantage of the companies' normal Weekend First upgrade to First Class for just £10 each way per person, subject to availability.
