2nd September 2005 Tommy's launches National Pregnancy Week Tommy's is aiming to raise awareness of the importance of good pregnancy health to mums-to-be, their partners, and their families during the 10th National Pregnancy Week which is running from 5-11 September 2005. The baby charity is holding fun and informative events across the UK in celebration of the week, starting with the Romper Stomp, a 5km walk through Richmond Park on Sunday 4th September, accompanied by a surprise celebrity. More than a thousand mums-to-be have been interviewed about the highs and lows of having a baby in the 21st century, to try to understand what more can be done to meet the needs of expectant mums across the UK. The results of the survey will be published during National Pregnancy Week and cover topics such as pregnancy at work, preconceptual care, alcohol in pregnancy, nutrition and diet and general information. The week is being supported by Boots and Johnson & Johnson who are jointly running product promotions throughout September aiming to raise £25,000 for Tommy's. Tommy's funds research and provides information on miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth. A spokesperson said, "Tommy's is determined to end the heartache caused by premature birth, miscarriage and stillbirth. We fund a national programme of research, education and information aimed at understanding and preventing these tragedies." The aim of National Pregnancy Week is to highlight the importance of pregnancy health to mums-to-be so that more babies can be born healthily and at full-term. In 2004, National Pregnancy Week reached an overall audience of 125 million, with coverage across broadcast news channels, 11 national papers as well as regional press and radio, websites and the internet. Celebrity support came from Sophie Ellis Bextor, Hermione Norris, Julia Carling and Carol Decker.
