No one can beat Noddy, according to a recent survey of favourite characters amongst pre-school children. He is even more popular than prime minister Tony Blair and football hero David Beckham. Toddlers (arguably like many adults) just aren't excited by Tony Blair's recent performance in the elections and seem equally unimpressed by David Beckham. If anyone could get the job of running the country or captaining England, based on these results, it would be Toytowns's favourite boy. When asked to point to their favourite person or character from pictures, 80% of pre-school children, aged up to four years, chose Noddy. David Beckham came a distant second with only 11%, while our man at No. 11 scored a measly 1%. Beckham was marginally more popular with girl toddlers, scoring 12%, but none of them pointed to Tony Blair first. This must dampen his image as a hunk after recent news revelations in The Sun newspaper reported that he was able to please Mrs Blair up to five times a night. The research involved 168 pre-school children, aged 2- 4 years, and their mums. It was carried out by face-to-face interviews and the celebrity images shown directly to children. The survey was carried out in the pre-election period, when both Blair and Beckham were exceptionally high profile. But then so too was Noddy, who has a regular and widely-watched slot on Channel 5 every day. The children were not asked which of Beckham or Blair had the biggest ears… Where to next?
