The big push to make cot 
death extinct

This year's Cot Death Awareness Week (7-13 May) is seeing more people than ever teaming up to improve awareness and raise money to make cot death a thing of the past. Schools, businesses, clubs and individuals across the country will be taking in part in fundraising activities organised by the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID).

In the biggest push yet to make cot death extinct, participants are being sponsored to push a pram, wheelbarrow, hospital bed, bath of baked beans or any other crazy wheeled vehicle! Health professionals are also doing their bit by displaying posters on how to reduce the risk of cot death.

The special theme for the charity's 30th anniversary year - 'make cot death extinct' - means that you can expect to see participants dressed up as dinosaurs and racing 30 times (a lap for each year of FSID) around school playing fields and shopping centres. 

The funds raised will go towards essential scientific research, as well as providing information and support for families devastated by cot death.

Joyce Epstein, FSID's director says, "We'd like to say a big thank you to all our fundraisers for giving Cot Death Awareness Week such a big push. With eight babies dying suddenly, unexpectedly every week in the UK, it is vital that we all push the message on how to reduce the risk of cot death and raise money for essential future research."
