Julia Roberts expecting twins

Oscar winning actress Julia Roberts is pregnant with twins according to People magazine.

The magazine quotes a spokeswoman for Ms Roberts, Marcy Engleman, as saying that the actress and her husband, Daniel Moder, are expecting the arrivals early next year.

The Pretty Woman star, 36, is reportedly 9 weeks pregnant. Some magazines are even suggesting that the babies' genders are already known, a boy and a girl.

Ms Roberts and her husband have spent two years since their idyllic wedding trying to conceive but eventually resorted to IVF, spending a reputed $18,000.

The spokeswoman was forced to confirm the news after the US tabloid, The Star, broke the story after speaking to close friends of the Hollywood actress.

Twins apparently run in the Roberts' family, with her great-grandmother being a twin as well as some cousins who are also twins.

Earlier this year, when asked about children, Ms Roberts told reporters, "I think children fall into the category of the Will of Heaven, and I don't really have a timetable for that."

Roberts, won the best actress Oscar in 2001 for Erin Brockovich and married cinematographer Daniel Moder, 35, in July 2002 at her home in New Mexico. The twins will be their first children.
