3 July, 2000DOUBLE TROUBLE/DOUBLE JOY AWARD LAUNCHCOMPANIES who provide good service for families with twins, triplets or more are to be rewarded with a Double The Joy award but the least helpful will get a Double The Trouble trophy. Tamba, the Twins and Multiple Births Association, is asking families with twins to nominate companies for their awareness of the challenges of bringing up more than one baby of the same age. The charity is also asking for details of big and small businesses who have proved a hindrance. It is also looking for particularly good, or poor media articles on the subject of bringing up twins. Tamba was persuaded to adopt the initiative by member and journalist Linda Jones who has been commissioned to contribute to babyworld's content about twins, triplets and more. Linda said the media awards would encourage and recognise responsible and sensitive reporting of multiple birth issues. And she said the products and services awards had been inspired by the experiences of members. She said: "I can think of some very big companies that have failed to even consider the needs of multiple birth families. All it takes is a bit of thought. How can a mum of twins go shopping when she can't even get her buggy through the door and how can she enjoy her holiday when the airline company offers no practical help at all?" And Linda said she had become increasingly frustrated at media coverage of multiple birth issues since having her twins, Emily and Melissa, now aged 20 months. "Not all parenting publications are as responsible as babyworld.co.uk who had the sense to actually ask a mum of twins what parents would like to read about," she said. "Now and again most will carry a twins pregnancy diary and the odd twins special but that is about it. Anyone looking for practical information is sorely disappointed."
