12th January 2006 Charity helpline reaches working parents with evening opening Contact a Family, the leading charity for families with disabled children, is extending its Helpline opening hours in a bid to reach more working parents. The freephone Helpline which is currently available between the hours of 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, will also open from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Monday evenings. Contact a Family provides information on over 3,000 conditions affecting around 770,000 disabled children under the age of 16 in the UK. The charity also produces the Contact a Family Directory which details specific conditions, rare disorders and UK family support groups. Contact a Family National Advice Manager, Mark Robertson, said, "Our new evening opening hours will give parents who can't get to the phone during the day - because they're working or caring for the children - the opportunity to discuss the sometimes complex issues they're facing in their everyday lives. "We'd like to extend our thanks to new trust, True Colours, for their generous grant, which has enabled us to offer this service." The Helpline offers advice on all aspects of raising a disabled child including claiming benefits, schools and education, parent support groups and medical information, especially on rare conditions. If you need advice, information or support, the Helpline number is 0808 808 3555 or you can visit the website at Contact a Family. Where to next?
