JACK AND CHLOE STILL TOP NAME CHOICES

The latest baby name analysis results for England and Wales are out - and Jack and Chloe remain top of the charts.

The name Jack has now been the most popular boys' name for the past eight years, with Chloe notching up six years of popularity. During the year 2002, a total of 2,430 different boys' names were registered, compared to 3,089 girls' names, suggesting parents are perhaps a bit more creative when it comes to choosing names for baby girls.

As well as conventional names, there's been an increase in the popularity of names that may well have been influenced by TV, celebrities and pop stars. Since David and Victoria Beckham named their son Romeo, 21 other babies have received the unusual name; Brooklyn - the name of their other son - was shared by 86 boys and 19 girls last year.

A total of 221 girls born in 2002 were named Shakira - possibly after a Colombian pop singer, and 468 were called Aaliyah, the name shared by an American R&B singer who was tragically killed in a plane crash.

Other favourites making the top 50 include Harvey, Ben, Harry and William, and Isabelle, Maisie, Jade and Laura.
