Baby charity launches nationwide fundraising challenge
The charity, Baby Lifeline is challenging all nurseries,
pre-school and mother & baby groups in the UK to hold a Little People's
Great Big Party on 30th March, during National Mother & Baby week, to
raise essential life saving funds.
The mother and baby charity joined forces with celebrities including
Tony Tobin, Jimmi Harkishin and Kate Ford and nine of its 'Miracle Babies'
to launch the nationwide fundraising challenge.
Baby Lifeline is a unique national charity offering the best care and
support to pregnant mothers and newborn babies all over the UK.
Judy Ledger, who founded the charity after suffering the personal loss
of three premature babies, said "Around 8,500 babies die in or around
the time of birth each year - some needlessly."
Although this number has reduced by almost 50 per cent since 1981, she
added "We need to ensure that we are able to continue to invest in
specialist maternity training and equipment so that this number can continue
to be reduced - to ensure the best possible outcome from pregnancy and
birth."
In the UK this year an extra 10,000 midwives are needed to deliver a
fully staffed service, providing the best care for all pregnant women.
If just 10,000 of the registered childcare groups (each one representing
a much needed midwife) accept the challenge, the charity could receive
over £1/2 million. This will fund nationwide specialist training for maternity
healthcare professionals and the purchase and provision of equipment for
maternity and special care baby units.
To be part of the exciting campaign all pre-school groups have to do
is visit the Baby Lifeline website
or call Tel: 02476 422135 to register.
The registration fee of £6 will all go towards the charity's valuable
work.
An exciting Party Pack themed by the hit CBBC series Jakers! will then
be sent out to each participating group containing many items including
fun activity sheets and party planners from Piggley Winks™ and the gang,
plus zany fundraising ideas, fun kiddies recipes from the charity's Vice
President - Tony Tobin as well as opportunities to win fabulous prizes.
These include a child friendly Kiddy Comforts holiday in the Canary Islands,
a short break at Woolley Grange, a DVD Player, digital cameras and printers
from Snapfish, a Panasonic Music System with MP3 and CD playback and more.
Judy Ledger said, "This is an exciting and unique venture which is capturing
the imagination and support of so many already.
"We urge everyone who runs a children's group or has a child who
attends a pre school or nursery to accept this challenge and help us to
achieve the half a million pound goal to assist the work of this vital
charity."
