Spanish woman becomes oldest mother
A 67 year old Spanish woman has given birth to twins in a Barcelona hospital.
The mother, who has not been named, gave birth on Saturday
after falling pregnant following fertility treatment in Latin America.
A spokesman for the Sant Pau hospital, which specialises
in high-risk births, said that both the mother and her babies were doing
well, although the twins are being cared for in incubators.
She has now become the world's oldest mother, one year older
than Romanian Adriana Iliescu who gave birth in January 2005 to a baby
girl.
Ms Iliescu had also fallen pregnant with tins following
fertility treatment, but one of her babies died in the womb.
