Jack tops baby names for 12th year
Jack and Jessica are the most popular boy and girl names for babies born
in 2006.
Jack has topped the table for favourite boys' names for
twelve years running but Jessica has helped knock back last year's leader,
Ellie, to tenth position.
The other most popular boys' names which make up the top
five are traditional choices of Joshua, Thomas, James and Daniel
Chloe, Emily, Sophie and Olivia make up the rest of the
top five for girls.
The yearly list, which is compiled by Bounty, also found
that of 380,000 babies born in Britain this year, the highest climber
for boys is Preston, while Ruby is the fast riser for girls.
Bounty managing director Simon Williamson said, "Parents
are becoming more adventurous with girls' names and take their inspiration-from
all kind of sources, including celebrities like Geri Halliwell, who has
certainly helped to make floral names a growing trend."
Names such as Poppy, Daisy, Lily and Jasmine are all amongst
the top 50 names for girls.
