Baby-friendly Restaurants

Finding a restaurant that provides facilities for babies and children can sometimes be difficult. Some London restaurants are slowly getting better at providing facilities for children, but your best bet is still to head for the big themed places. The following are all in central London:

Rainforest Cafe

20 Shaftesbury Avenue, W1, tel: 020 7434 3111; Piccadilly Circus tube
Meals: noon-10.30pm Mon-Thurs; noon-11.3-pm Fri; 11.30am-11.30pm Sat; 11.30am-10.30pm Sun

American-style food (burgers, fries etc) and a jungle-style decor, complete with wild animal noises and waterfalls. There's a set children's menu, face-painters and more.

 

Smollensky's on the Strand

105 Strand Street WC2, tel: 020 7497 2101; Charing Cross tube/rail.
Meals: noon-midnight Mon-Wed; noon-12.30am Thurs-Sat.

Buzzing brasserie with loads going on for kids: magicians and clowns at weekend lunchtimes, a Punch and Judy show on Saturdays and a magic show on Sundays (both at 2.30pm). There's also face painting, toys and crayons and a play area.

 

The Big Easy

Meals: noon-midnight Mon-Thurs; noon-12.30pm Fri, Sat; noon-11.30pm Sun
Has good facilities for children, from highchairs and crayons to a special kid's menu.

Also look out for the TGI Friday chain, whose restaurants are well-geared up for children. Most branches offer crayons, balloons and toys and a magician on Sundays. Call 01908 669911 for your nearest branch.
