Modern day dads are a caring, supportive and hands-on bunch, according
to our latest Father's Day survey.
Babyworld's vibrant community responded to the survey which looked at how dad's
fulfil their roles as fathers - from changing nappies and cleaning up
vomit to assisting at the birth and chipping in with housework.
Brilliant birth partners
An impressive 87% of mums who completed the survey said that their partner
was fantastic at the birth and they couldn't have got through it without
them. 7% of dads coped fairly well despite feeling squeamish, whilst 6%
were more terrified than their partners!
Less time for leisure
With more parents having to return to work to fund living costs, it was
no surprise to find that 52% of mums also went out to work along with
their partners, whilst 6% of dads stayed at home full time to look after
the children. The additional pressures of being a parent also revealed
that only 30% of dads are able to schedule time each week to indulge in
the hobbies they enjoyed before their baby was born. 48% grab time when
they can whilst 22% are simply too busy being a family man.
Dads do the dirty work
When it came to doing the housework, 41% of mums said that it is split
between both of them, whilst 8% of dads do most of the chores themselves.
The survey also found that dads are more than happy to change nappies
and clean up vomit, with 75% taking it in turns with their partners.
Parents too busy for dating
Just over 50% of mums felt that their relationship with their partner
had grown stronger since having a baby, but 20% felt that things were
different and that they didn't seem to communicate like they used to.
Finding time to spend as a couple was also a dilemma with 23% having to
rely on a babysitter and 24% finding life just too busy to go on a good
old fashioned date.
And the award for best celebrity dad goes
to…
Jamie Oliver was a clear winner in the celebrity dad category with 67%
of mums claiming to admire him most. The majority of mums love the work
Jamie is doing to revolutionise school dinners whilst remaining a devoted
family man to his wife and two daughters. David Beckham seemed to hit
an all time popularity-low with just 14%, closely followed by nappy-phobic
Gordon Ramsey and Tony Blair with 9%.
