Brilliant but disgusting!

Parent Panel review by Lorraine - review date 31 July 2008
This is a good product which is easy to use. My 9 month old son is already quite good at chewing small amounts of food, but this enabled me to give him chunks of melon, apple and banana without worrying about him choking. It is very messy and looked awful when he was chewing on a soggy piece of mesh, but he thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt that it was very fiddly to clean and I would prefer to change the net quite regularly, rather than reusing it. The net also turned brown after putting banana in it. It think it is a useful product, but expensive for what it is.

Best Feature: Enabled the baby to feed himself without me worrying
Worst Feature: Really difficult to clean and net stained
Verdict: Good but expensive. Needs extra nets.

"Thoroughly recommend"
I bought a pack of two baby safe feeders as it looked ideal for Cameron, 7 months. He absolutely loves using one and can eat all sorts in it, thick jelly a favourite. I was so pleased, and then my daughter came home with a similar one from Tomy Tippee which she paid three pounds for and I paid twenty for mine. Lesson learnt. I would thoroughly recommend the product, but shop around for similar.

"A bit of a faff"
At first Isobelle was not interested in this at all. She would drop it constantly, I think perhaps she was just not interested in finger foods at that point.

I did find it very good when used with frozen fruit smoothie. This helped relieve her sore gums and she loved it. However with other foods she isn't so keen.

The mesh bag did tend to discolour quite easily as well and isn't easy to wash either.

All in all, I would not buy this product as the cost and faffing about trying to clean does not outweigh the benefits. Also, I would expect extra mesh bags to be included for the RRP.

"A must-have feeding tool"
This product is suitable for use from 5 months on which was why I was keen to try it with my daughter. She is already keen to use her hands so we got trying it as soon as it arrived. The first thing we tried was peach which she couldn't get enough of. It is very easy to use, cut your piece of food, slip it in the mesh bag and screw it to the handle. Ava easily held the handle although the bag was a little baggy so I helped her negotiate it into her mouth. I wouldn't dare try this without this product and it gave me real peace of mind that she couldn't choke. The whole concept is a good one and apart from the fact that it is fiddly to wash and I could have done with extra mesh bags I really like it. I would like to see added accessories like extra mesh bags maybe in different sizes and also a rubber teether end?? It is a great way for younger babies to start learning to feed themselves without the worry of choking, although my older baby (2 yrs 5mnths) was desperate to try it. Great for older babies who like the juice but not the texture of the food.
