Feeding bottle

Great for babies with feeding problems

Parent Panel review by Sarah - review date 4 August 2005
I bought this bottle as a last resort for my daughter who has special needs. She has a muscle weakness and can't suck well enough to use a regular bottle. She manages up to 6 ounces with this bottle which has meant we have to feed her less with her feeding tube! Result! It has a special valve which means the fluid held in the teat can be controlled by the baby's sucking. This means that the milk doesn't free-flow, so the baby can control the flow better. The teat isn't shaped like most bottle teats, and the baby can take as much or as little of the teat into their mouth as they need to. This is an expensive bottle, but was worth every penny for us as it means our daughter can actually drink from a bottle.

Best Feature: Unique valve controls flow
Worst Feature: Quite expensive
Verdict: Not for every baby, but worth it for those with feeding difficulties

"Absolutely brilliant!"
Love it! One month old son took to it like a duck to water, and has never possetted with it. Going back to work in a few weeks so I was a bit worried, needn't have been, he has taken more milk with it than on the breast.

"Nice idea but not for us."
We tested this bottle on behalf of babyworld to try and get our daughter to transition for one feed from breast to bottle. Unfortuantly this was unsuccessful.

The bottle is one of the best bottle ideas i have seen and if my DD would take a bottle i would prefer her to have this one as your baby isnt overwhelmed by a mass of milk they dont want. I have seen this so many times with others.

The bottle has 3 different flows on it which i think is a great idea.

The teat is more "nipple" shaped too giving it that natural look compared to all other bottles.

My dd wouldnt have this bottle though. I dont think it was the bottle, more to do with the fact she is breastfed and just wants me lol.

Brilliant idea though.

"Fantastic"
Isabel loves this bottle and I do too.

The teat is fantastic that you get 3 different flow rates at just a slight turn of the bottle. Also with the valve system you can see if your baby is feeding because you can see the milk is flowing through.

It is a little tricky to keep all parts sterile and I would like to have a cap to put on the teat as it would make it easier to keep it sterile whilst out and about.

I have a medela swing breast pump and I think the bottle is compatible but the valves aren't.

The price is quite steep, it would have been nice to have an extra bottle in the pack as there are two teats and valves but all in all it is worth it to introduce your baby to a bottle as Isabel took to it straight away and drank more milk than ever from it.

"miracle bottle!!"
Absolutely Fantastic!! This was the only bottle Toby (aged 13mths) would take, easy to assemble and with it's spcial one-way valve, baby can control the flow and does not become overwhelmed.Definately worth the extra pennies,thank-you Medela!

"Disappointed!"
I spent £25 on two Haberman bottles as I'd intended to change from breast to bottle feeding. Kim wouldn't take a feed from the bottles at all and in the end I tried Tommee Tippee Nuby bottles and she was fine.

There was a lot of faffing around with various parts to the bottles and it took ages just to get the feed ready .. not what you want when you have a screaming baby beside you. A complete waste of money :o(

"Haberman Feeder"
I too watched the 'baby whisperer' on the TV and decided there and then the Haberman Feeder was the only bottle I was prepared to use along side the breast. My main reason was the large decrease in colic. My daughter was born weighing in at 9lb 9.5oz... a large, hungry baby! My milk did not come in so I used the Haberman Feeder straight away. NO PROBLEMS. My daughter took to it straight away. She is now 8 months old and I have never looked back. I have not had a single problem with trapped wind or anything else related to bottle feeding. It does have a down fall though. Because the teet is thin and so different to the 'usual' teets, my daughter would not soothe on a dummy (although I didn't want her to have one) and now she is getting older and is able to have juice, she will not accept a normal bottle..... explaining to a baby, who wants to hold her own bottle, that she has to line up the lines to her nose is gonna prove difficult! This is a small price to pay for a colic-less baby! I recommend to everyone and I will be definately be using with my second child. Value for money. I am changing the membrane for the first time in 8 months now. Everything else is still fine. ***** When your baby is eating more than the 5oz and you need a bigger bottle. Save money by buying the normal high street bottles as the cuff fits most bottles. I am currently using the TOMMIE TIPPIE bottles with no problems. Take a cuff shopping to see if it fits before you buy!! *****

"Money well spent!"
We saw the Haberman feeder on The Baby Whipserer show on Discovery Health & deicded it would be an ideal bottle for combining breast feeding and bottle feeding as my partner wanted to be involved too. Although they are expensive, Conor was sick only once in four and a half months on milk! I'm told that's pretty good going! He took to the bottle within a week of being born & had his last night feed from it. His transition to drinking beaker was pretty easy as it has a similar action where if the baby doesn't suck, they don't get milk and hence they don't choke. Although it is primarily designed for babies with feeding problems & special needs I would highly recommend it & will be definately using it again if I have another baby.
