Lightweight buggy

Pricey but very stable choice.

Parent Panel review by Claire - review date 4 June 2007
This buggy looks and performs well. It's quite a traditional buggy but with a bit of an edge to make it stand out. It ticked some, but not all of my boxes.

It is very lightweight and easy to push. It seems to be very stable and copes with city-life rather well. You can hang shopping on the back but too much and it will tip. The basket under the buggy is not as small as some and is accessible unless the buggy is reclined in which case forget it! If you do have more shopping, or maybe another child to hold, this is an easy buggy to push with one hand although I did find that the angle of the handles made my wrists ache after a while.

I found the buggy easy to collapse and put up again with one hand. The catch to hold the buggy together when closed worked well although on occassions I found it hard to take off with one hand. The hood stays in place when the buggy is folded and there are a couple of handy pockets for small items.

My son seemed to be reasonably comfortable in the seat although he did tend to loll rather. Unlike most buggies where the straps that go over the shoulders come from shoulder height, the mamas and papas has a different system where the straps are anchored at waist level and then the child is free to move away from the chair. If you have a child, like my son, who will move as far as the straps allow this does mean that they have quite a range of movement which can be both good and bad. At times my son got himself into all sorts of odd positions, some of which were clearly not that comfortable. The straps are also rather long and at 11 months they were shortened as far as possible and still a bit too big. This buggy says it's suitable from birth but I would have issues putting a small baby in it for this reason.

The seat reclines into various fixed positions and it is easy to do this with the child in the buggy. There is also a foot rest which can be tilted up or down. In the up position the rest seemed to be inclined slightly upwards.

The brakes on this buggy were very firm but on occassions I thought I had put them on only to find that they hadn't quite engaged. Something to be aware of but not a huge problem.

The rain cover was easy to fit but rather unusually had a plastic backed fabric bottom half. Whilst this looked very stylish I found that it took quite a while to dry and so was not as convenient as the usual all-plastic covers. There is also a foot muff available. This was awkward to fit and I found the straps difficult to do up when this was used.

This is a very stable and stylish buggy. I thought it expensive compared to some on test and a little too large for smaller babies.

"Ziko Frankie"
We purchased our M&P Ziko from an outlet store so got it at a really reasonable discount price. It is our second pushchair after having first bought a Mothercare Maxim travel system...we wanted something lighter, smaller and more manouverable which we got from the Ziko.

I love its funkyness and its just a little bit different from the standard umbrella-folding pushchair. You can hang a few bags on the back,( however my little boy is quite heavy which counterbalances it, not sure you could with a newborn.)The seat-liner and cosytoes are well padded and comfy, they easily come off for washing. The hood is quite substantial and the shopping basket is adequate, although not accessable when the seat is fully reclined. A plus point is that the seat reclines with a proper sliding mechanism, not a toggle like some pushchairs, which makes it easier to adjust. It is really light and compact. I found it really easy to push and steer, even though im only tiny myself, a dream after using a heavy wide pram!

One negative point is that Im not too keen on the straps, they are the 'floating' kind, where they are just fixed to the chassis at waist level, not at the shoulders, which meant my little boy fell forward a bit until he was big enough to sit up himself. I also found the seat liner could have done with more fixings to the pushchair as it only uses the straps to hold it in place and found it fell forward which was a bit of a pain, especially when trying to put the baby in!

Have had no other problems with it, apart from the paint seeming to be quite easy to scratch. I would recommend this pushchair to a friend.

"Fab"
After having my son i have become a bit of a pramaholic but of all of them this is the one i love the most.

It lays back really flat so its my little boy looks really comfy in it and although its slightly heavier then other pushchairs can be, the wheels really glide and its a real joy to push.

"is loving her ziko bubblegum!"
when it was time to get megan a new buggy my mother and myself went out on the rounds to choose and test buggies. Before setting out i had my heart set on the silver cross pop. However i was disappointed at the lack of quality and the flimsy feel of this. I was delighted when i went to M & P and tested out the ziko Frankie!

Positive

It was robust yet still light and compact.

smart and funky

reasonably priced

came with a small buggy bag which you can fit a nappy, travel pack of wipes, jar of food and spoon plus a few other bits in. Also came with matching pram liner and cool looking cosy toes. Lastly came with a raincover.

It is easy to collapse

Megan was really comfy in it and sleeps in her buggy loads now, which she never did in the travel system

Negative

the tray underneath cannot be accessed when the buggy is reclined

raincover is awkward to attach

lastly and most annoyingly. If it is Winter and you want to collapse the buggy the top part of the cosy toes has to be removed in order to get the clasp to meet
