Lovely!

Parent Panel review by Clara - review date 12 February 2007
I am very glad that I chose this product over the plastic versions for various reasons. I mainly chose it for aesthetics, as I hate the plastic ones, but have also found it to be lighter and slimmer. Although other chairs are available which fold up, the added bulk of the folding mechanism just makes for a heavier and larger chair anyway. A few little points that are worth bearing in mind, though...

The plastic tray cover is an optional extra item, but I think it is an essential if you don't want the tray to be scratched or stained, and a milk spillage in porous wood could smell forever! I think the tray attachment could be a bit tighter, as I am thinking of a tantruming older baby kicking at the underside of the tray, it really bangs up and down if that happens, and could come off. The seat height is less than most other highchairs on the market by around 5-8cm, and I would have liked it to be higher like those ones.

Adjustment and set-up was very very easy.

You can't get over the price, though, can you? Wooden chairs of this type are reducing in price, and the Svan now outstrips them all in terms of cost... ensure comparisons of like for like, though, as most others don't come with cushions, etc. and you then have to add those.

A chair that's built to last!

Test length: 1 month
Parent Panel review by Diane - review date 6 April 2006
This chair is very unusual in design and has some great features - the tray fits snugly round your baby so no chance of baby getting out, or trapping food down the sides! It is very easy to clean and comes with a very well padded and supportive seat. My only criticism is that it appears to be very narrow and i'm not sure how much room there would be for an older baby

Best Feature: Snug fitting tray with a rim round it
Worst Feature: not that easy to adjust
Verdict: A good quality chair with unusual design

"Not for the clean obsessed!"
I do love this highchair, it looks great and my son is clearly comfortable in it. He has used it since he was about 6 months old and is now one. Yes it is a bit expensive compared to some but the benefits far outweigh the cost.

However, I have to say it is a cleaning chore! I took it apart today to clean and had to remove each screw to get to the food around it! Yuk! To be fair I am not cleaning obsessive and have been happy to live with it for six months without doing this but, if you like things to be spotless don't pick this chair!

"Fantastic...Best buy ever"
This must be the only baby item that I have bought and been completely satisfied with. It's so sturdy and stylish it won't look out of place in anyone's house. Very secure for your baby from about the time they can sit up. I would completely recommend the Svan Highchair to anyone.

"Great value!"
I think this was the best buy that we made overall! Sebastian has used this right fom the beginning of his weaning, and it was very supportive when he first started to sit in it. We didn't had to use anything to strap him in, because the tray and the bar around the front made it such a snug fit.

When he started eating his meals with us at 1 year old, we could push him up to the table, and now that he's 29 months, we've taken the wooden bar off the chair, and he can get up and down by himself!

The seat covers wash well (and have taken quite a beating!), and dry quickly both on the line and in the tumble dryer.

The chair fits snugly under the dining table, which was always a concern of ours with such a small living/ dining room.

I would love to get another for the new baby, when he needs it, but it was rather expensive, so we'll have to wait and see! It's definitely something I would budget for.

"very good"
I bought this chair for my baby when she was around 5 months old. Putting it together was pretty easy except for accidently drilling into the feeding tray (screws supplied were too long). I use the chair everyday and have not had any problems thus far, although it is only 3 months old. I am happy with my decision to buy it - it was a bit pricey but it does seem pretty robust and safe.

"Fantastic - especially if you have expensive dining chairs"
This high chair is excellent. When we found out we were expecting (let alone twins) I did have reservations about my leather dining chairs especially as we had only just purchased them. (Visions of food mess and scratches from shoes loomed) but no more the Svan high chair takes care of that as your child can use it up to being an adult almost!

It comes in a range of colours (especially if you look on the internet) and we found a lovely cherry wood that goes quite well with the dining table so they look great as well as being practical.

They are very neat and sit and the end of our table (so I have only had to banish one dining chair upstairs). My twin boys love them, as does everyone else that visits.

They have used them from around 8 months (as they only started sitting up then), I have bought a harness for them but I find that I don't need them because the chairs are very well fitting and they cannot fall out or slide down (believe me this is a great positive when you have twins).

Yes I know they are expensive, but in my opinion they are worth every penny and they certainly take up a lot less space and look a lot better than a conventional plastic high chair. Plus you can use them for years to come (in fact they may well last longer tht the leather dining chairs!)

"Brilliant"
Took me along time to persuade hubby to part with so much money for a high chair, but it was worth every penny.

We used it from when Oliver was 6 months old.

The removable tray is great, we all eat tea together and it means Oliver can sit right at the table with us. It also means if we have used it and he's made a real mess we can take it off out of his way.

The seat covers wash really easy and dry very quickly, a real asset!

I love the fact that its wood and I haven't got to have a hunk of plastic sitting in my dining room.

I thinks its great, and will be purchasing another for my second child when he/shes ready.
