I've always quite fancied a VW Golf so when an opportunity arose to test the new Golf Plus, I couldn't wait to get behind the wheel.
The Golf Plus is a smart, stylish and rather trendy-looking car that mums about town will love. It's equipped with modern features and is a lot more spacious than the original Golf - allowing for more leg room in the front and back (a must if you're a tall family like us).
Family friendly features we liked included:
- There are isofix car seat fittings in the back to secure two seperate car seats. The seat we tried was exceptionally secure and I was most impressed with the level of safety it offered.
- It has a very clever use of space. The car is a compact size but the interior feels luxuriously spacious as far as basic hatchbacks go.
- There are lots of clever storage compartments built into the interior that you can fill with kiddie games and activities to keep little minds stimulated.
- It's not difficult to grasp the mechanics of the car - everything is neatly positioned and it manages to be fancy without going over the top.
- The powerful fog and automatic hazard lights that are activated on emergency braking add to the general safety features of this car.
- It's equipped with a speedy (and rather neat) air conditioning system that packs a punch in warmer weather and keeps the whole family comfortably cool.
- There are air bags-a-plenty, ensuring a safe ride for all passengers, front and rear, including curtain air bags at the sides.
- It has a dust and pollen filter that's perfect for sneezy babies or hayfever sufferers like me!
- The door mirrors are adjusted electronically and the steering wheel can be adjusted to suit your height/reach. The mechanics are very sleek and smooth - everything works beautifully.
- If you're a music fan, you'll be delighted with the top-notch stereo system that delivers a brilliant sound through four high quality speakers. It also has an i-pod connector to cater for your more personal music tastes.
- There's plenty of storage and very useful cup holders in the front and back, saving you the hassle of having to reach back with your child's drink all the time.
- The car has a mammoth 6 gears and is very economical if you travel long distances regularly.
Best Feature: The safety levels are very high
Worst Feature: The car looks great but the interior upholstery lets it down slightly.
Verdict: A great option for young families who want a sturdy, powerful car that isn't too bulky.
