If you're looking for a car to smooth the journey into family life, take a look at the Mercedes B class. It is deceptively spacious with the capacity of an estate car but the manoeuvrability of a hatchback. Five of us travelled to France for the day, with two children and Granny in the back. Granny commented on the amount of leg-room, my children loved the play trays the smell of new leather and the smooth ride, my six-year-old passenger even commented " how did you move the car, the engine isn't on?" not bad for a diesel car!
Family-friendly features we loved: We are a music-mad family and so the built in iPod adapter was a dream - we were never short of our favourite playlist!
  • A chilled glove compartment - a very, cool idea! Such a boon for keeping food or milk in for short journeys.
  • A built-in hands-free phone kit - no faffing around this car is just ready to go.
  • The B class has the ISOFIX plug-in child-seat system as standard. We used the Mercedes seat supplied which makes fitting a child car seat extremely simple and easy.
  • If you use a special Mercedes-Benz baby seat in the front. A sensor in the front cushion picks up a signal from a chip in the baby seat and deactivates the airbag.
  • The boot has a height-adjustable floor. Particularly useful when you are carrying a full load and need extra space or to make changing a nappy less of a backbreaking operation!
  • Simple levers for moving or folding seats that can be flicked with one hand. This makes it easier to load up the car whilst carrying bags or small children.
  • It drives really well - and made me think about getting a diesel car again because it was soooo quiet and of course economic on fuel. All in all, a fantastic big car in a small package.

Best Feature: lots of family- friendly features packed into this car
Worst Feature: Slightly annoying position of hand brake
Verdict: Has all the features of a big car in a small package
