When I was expecting my second baby I started to look for a comfy baby carrier. The one I had bought for my daughter had not been used much as I was not comfortable or confident wearing it.
Having heard lots about ring slings I bought one of these and was very excited about wearing my baby.
Baby had other ideas. When my son was born I cheerfully popped him into it and he hated it instantly. I persevered but it was no good. So. I started to look again and that is when I discoved the Meitai carriers.
They are available in many many different funky fabric designs. They are portable and extremely comfortable to wear. Most importantly, my son LOVES it. He will sit contentedly in it, all snug even in the coldest of weather (we have just used it for a weekend away at the seaside in Devon where the storms were extraodinary). I have one that is minkee lined and this is so warm and even has the added bonus that I can slip my hands in behind my baby and keep them warm too!
The Maitei is extremely easy to use. A waist strap ties round your waist, you hold your baby to you and pull the over shoulder straps up and over, cross them at the back and then tie them at the front. Job done.
It is soft and compactable so easy to stow in the car or nappy bag. Best of all they are beautiful looking.
The only thing that I would say is that I could use another inch or so on the waist strap as I am not a skinny minny but I can do the ones I have up ok.
If you are looking for an out of the ordinary baby carrier then this is for you!
Best Feature: The beautiful designs
Worst Feature: I can't have more of them as DH says no. tee hee
Verdict: I lovely, out of the ordinary baby carrier which is a pleasure to use for you and for baby.

"Big Disappointment"
We researched and read a bunch of reviews on baby carriers. We also never write negative comments unless the product is truly unsatisfactory. Most people had great things to say about this carrier. We thought it seemed like a cool product, especially because you can design it yourself. We couldn't wait to get it.
It finally arrived and boy were we wrong. I tried putting this carrier on by myself. I am a very capable person, but putting it on my back is impossible by myself. My husband has to help me everytime I put it on and when he's gone is when I need this on the most.
Also, we didn't feel this was safe nor was it comfortable. It always felt like the straps would become to loose or he would fall out. The carrier also put so much pressure on my back and shoulders.
When it comes to style, it is really neat how you can pick out your own pattern and add a pocket. It looks really cool from the back but you look hideous from the front. You have these two big knots and fabric hanging down.
Also - most of the reviews that are linked to the BabyHawk page are paid advertisements and comments can not be made. I'm glad that on this page I can discourage you or at least warn you before you buy.
If you do buy this product make sure you buy one that is in-stock because otherwise they will not let you return it.

"I don't know how I coped before"
I love my Babyhawk. I ordered it direct from Babyhawk for approx £50 incl. postage(due to the favourable Dollar exchange rate) and chose a different fabric for each side.
I've used it for a couple of months now, mainly with my 6 month old (front carry) but occasionally with my 3.5 yr old (back carry). I find it so easy to use, which was something I worried about before it arrived as the instructions sounded a bit daunting. After following the instructions a couple of times I was confident using it.
It's so comfortable, even with my 3.5 yr old and the straps don't cut in as they are wide and well padded. Both my children have slept in it.
We recently used it at the Airport and whilst on holiday as there were loads of steps where we stayed so we couldn't use the buggy and it was worth it's weight in gold!

"OOOOh I LOVE my babyhawk!!!"
My eagerly awaited Babyhawk arrived on Saturday and I am in love!I ordered directly from Babyhawk and so chose my own fabrics. I have a reversible one with a pocket on each side, toy loop, headrest and extra long straps (as I am a bit lardy). The headrest is brilliant and stays folded down when you want it to. The toy loop is fab for attaching my keys to and the pocket is handy for burp-cloths!
So far I have only used it in the tummy to tummy position, but have breastfed in it without too many problems. I am looking forward to trying the back carries when dh is around to 'spot' me. I also find the straps really comfy and well padded.
All in all, a wonderful carrier

"Thankgoodness for BabyHawk"
We bought one when our daughter was 3 months old as we went to the US and ordered one direct before we went. Previously she had been in a ring sling. She loved it straight away. I have tried a couple of other Mei Tai's and conventional carriers and so far this is our favorite. My husband and I are well rounded people and it fits well. We have used it in a variety of carries and it has always been comfortable, we have even managed to get the Grandparents using it. Now our Daughter is almost 9 months we have to adapt how we carry her but once you get the hang of it you can easily shuffle your baby on your back when there is no one else to help out. (Though you should practice with help until you have the hang of it). The only annoying thing with any Mei Tai is the long straps that dangle while you try to do it up, but you can pre tie it before you go out and then lower your child in once out of the car. The bonus of ordering direct is that you can choose from a HUGE variety of colours and patterns.
