great idea, shame about the instructions

Parent Panel review by helen - review date 3 July 2006
i found the instructions included virtually impossible to follow and i like to consider myself a bit of a flat pack queen! however they are really helpful on the phone help line which makes up for it. just make sure you set aside about an hour with no kids running round to try and fix it on! im still glad i bought it over a double buggy as i can still use our 3in1 travel system for the new baby so ive saved lots of money in the long run

Best Feature: the idea
Worst Feature: dodgy instructions!
Verdict: worth it just dont attempt to fit it on a hot day lol

"Great idea, difficult to use"
This is, in principle, a great product. I am a mum to a 10 month old and also a childminder so purchased the buggypod to save me from buying a heavy double buggy - I have a bad back. Once the buggy pod is fully attached to the buggy, it's great and I do get loads of comments from passers by. However.....the buggy pod brackets are really hard to attach. We thought that once they were attached, it would be easy to use but the buggypod itself is not easy, by any means to attach to the brackets and has twice fallen off. And as for the rain cover - you cannot collapse it down to store under the buggy as it's too large. It's really tricky to attach to the buggypod itself and in order to attach it, you need to unclip the material safety clip that secures the buggypod to the pushchair, should it fall off. All that said, it is a great product once fully attached and if it doesn't rain. In hindsight, I would have possibly purchased a cheap, light weight umberella fold twin buggy.....

"Great idea, terrible in practice!"
Buy a double!!

I thought the Buggypod would be a great solution to my problem of wanting a lie-flat pram for my new baby, and an occasional seat for my 2 year old. In reality, it was awful!

It made my travel system really heavy and awkward to push, and was difficult to fold up. It would tip up going round corners, and was a nightmare getting in and out of shops!

A complete waste of £80!

"generally pretty good"
As others have said already, it was difficult to decipher the instructions, but once on it seems to work ok.

Personally, I bought mine secondhand (as new), so it was value for money - definetly easier & lighter to push and fit in shops than my double mothercare buggy. Feels a little wonky when there's a kid sitting in it, probably would feel better if (as someone else mentioned) there was an extra wheel on it. I think people wanting it to lie back etc, are expecting too much. I think people need to see it as a next step up from a buggy board.

"Good for open spaces"
The buggypod is great for open spaces and going for long walks but getting into and around shops it is too big. It probably depends on the size of your pushchair, my pushchair plus the buggypod is about 20cm wider than the average double buggy, which means I can not get through single doorways. Also, while my toddler is in the buggypod, I find pushing quite awkward because it is always pulling to the right, especially if the ground is not level. Clips are stiff.

"Brilliant idea but not sure in practice"
I recently bought a Buggypod to save on buying yet another buggy to accommodate newborn and 2 1/2 year old. It took my husband over an hour to fix the brackets but finally managed it.

It is a great concept but in practice has several flaws.

It isn't the quickest thing to attach and detach from a buggy - wouldn't want to do it in the rain.

The clips are very stiff to undo making it tricky to fold up AND keep an eye on a wandering toddler when she wants to walk.

Isn't as easy to get through doorways as you are led to believe. Whilst the pod itself is narrow enough the actual wheel adds a couple more inches making it impossible to get through single doors...or down most shop aisles...the whole reason I bought it. Annoyingly my sister got her McClaren double buggy through a single door and I got stuck because of the Buggypods wheel!

All in all I have only wasted about £80 so not too miffed that I now need to purchase a narrow double buggy.

"Buggpod"
Glad my husband put it together as I found the instructions really hard to follow. Kev is realy quick at this sort of thing but even he needed to be in a room on his own just to concentrate on reading the instructions and it still took him an hour to put it together! However, we feel it is a great idea. I also have a Silvercross pram - so it is ideal having the Buggypod, as I can collapse it and put it in the car when I need to travel. One word of advise! PRACTICE FIRST! Make time to practice collapsing it and unfolding it (when the kids are in bed in the evening)and certainly before you go out with it! My husband got me to practice for his own piece of mind and I am glad he did, as I wouldn't want the initial hassle and frustration I had of not being able to operate the new 'stiff' clips when I was out on my own in town with the kids! Otherwise, an excellent product. My friend and I swapped (me using her double buggy for a half an hour walk and her using the buggy pod). The main thing we both noticed was how much better the buggy-pod was for your arms in that your arms are not stretched to the limit - as they are with a regular double buggy (as buggy-pod only relies on existing handles of main pushchair) - MUCH EASIER! Also, Buggypod is slightly lighter and definately narrower in doorways but best of all is if my 2 year old wants to walk alongside the pram - I can now easily fold it up flush to the pushchair. (wheel still proves a little harder to remove though). Also noticed my daughter seems to be very comfortable in it! Irony for me is that it attracts nearly as much attention and second glances as my beautiful old Silvercross pram! It's quite amusing! The product could be modified to be a bit easier to fold and unfold but if you practice a few times first,(to also help losen the new clips etc..) you do get used to it!

"Dont Waste Your Money"
The idea behind the buggy pod is fantastic but the item itslf is useless. On my ds's 1st outing in it the strap clasp snapped, on the 2nd outing the wheel broke, and on the 3rd it collapsed completly with ds in it. We also had a problem keeping the clips in place on the pram as they kept moving and if we tried to tighten them the screw became useless. customer services were great and we got a full refund so i wouldnt even watse your time and effort with it. If there was a wheel at the front as well it may have held better

"great idea in principle."
When its open as a doubble it works really well, it even fits on the bus. It can be a bit of a pain to fold up tight against the buggy, and never manages that well. Theres no sun cover, it cant lie back at all. When its off the buggy its a bit off an odd thing to try and store around the house. You cant fold up the big buggy without removing it first, and then quite fiddly to put back on again. My toddlers feet dont sit comfortably on the footplate. you feel like you could do with anohter handle for a bit more manouvarabilty. The cklips that is vital on the side broke in the first mnonth of using it, and you have to secure it at the top with a clip ( or the toddler will get tipped right over) which is another thing you have to do when folding and unfolding as if moving the wheel wasnt a big enough pain! The idea of a fold away extra set is excelent, but a bit more work is needed I think. Also you cant go anywhere without EVERYONE asking where you got it. I can't honestly recomend it unless you dont need a double buggy very oftan.
