Must have buggy

Parent Panel review by Nicola - review date 27 March 2006
A funky looking pushchair which attracts attention when you are out and about. Can tackle all sorts of terrain and bumps up and down curbs and stairs with ease - you can turn it through 360 degrees with one hand which is great for negotiating narrow shops and doorways. Very light and compact when folded. I use it with the Maxi Cosi Cabrio car seat to make a great light weight pram. The only downside is the fact that the shopping basket is very small and totally inacessable once you have the seat/car seat in place!

Best Feature: Very easy to manoeuvre
Worst Feature: The very small and inaccessable shopping basket
Verdict: Fantastic and good value

I have found this stroller amazing. Every morning I have to take my six year old son to school and found the micralite great for when I need to get my two year old out of the car and into the stroller with the least amount of fuss and as fast as possible. Also only having a Vauxhall Corsa I found it hard to get any other stroller in the boot but the micralite has even got detatchable wheels to make life easier. Genius.

Best Feature: Handle height and weight.
Worst Feature: Only two seat possitions
Verdict: Great to use and great to look at.

"Does it live up to the hype?"
Well I did my research, it's my 3rd pushchair! Was it worth it?

My criteria is diferrent from most mums, I have SPD so walking difficult and with crutches. So I needed a Pushchair that was light, manoverable, can fold with one hand (with no bending involved)for getting on the bus, and can push with one hand the other holding a crutch, I live in the country so all needs to go over bumpy ground. It ticks all those boxes. For me I love it. We don't go long distances but I can push it unlike my heavy travel system. And generally it folds easily, occassionaly the foobar sticks.

For my daughter it's not so good. She's 2.5 so her legs rub on the edge of the seat and legs just dangle in the air. Luckly she's very slim otherwise she wouldn't fit as it's very narrow in the shoulder region. and she slouches and can't get in and out on her own which is frustrating as she's going through miss independent stage. And lastly the sun hood- small and pointless.

But it's the best on the market for me so we've put a liner in to keep her legs comfy.

Would I recomend it? It looks great, moves great but is dependant on child age. I think if you want just 1 pushchair throughout the baby and toddler years there are better on the market.

"Best thing I bought!"
I actually have the Micralite Toro and I did a heap of research before buying it including using the reviews on the Babyworld site. I wanted a sturdy pram which had a carry cot, could click in a car seat but that was lightweight and easy to fold and get in and out of the car - if you have the same criteria this is the pram for you. I've used it with carry cot (good size, waterproof, comfy for baby), with maxi cosi car seat (easy click in) and as a stroller plus have travelled for 2 months with it and it has been fantastic. I wanted to have a pram that lasted rather than buying something like the Bugaboo and then having to change to something like a MacLaren later on. Highly recommend this pram.

"Great all rounder"
After using my Buzz whilst Poppy was newborn, I was looking for a lightweight stroller for nipping into town and also for short walks. I and Poppy love it. It has a funky design (I have the sand colour) and it's a bit different form your bog standard pushchair. It's a really smooth ride and even Poppy falls asleep in it which is never heard of!!! My husband can get it into the boot of his car (Grand Punto) as the wheels come off with ease. There are 2 seating positions which are easy to change and the lie back is really comfy for even little ones.

"I wouldn't bother with it"
My first pushchair was a Mamas and Papas Freestyler, which I needed to replace due to buying a smaller car. So, I purchased the Micralite. Initially I was really pleased with it, and got lots of looks and comments (it was a fairly new model then).

But, as my son got older he quickly outgrew it, and due to the build of the Micralite, found it difficult to get in and out by himself, as it would tip up easily. This would also happen with only a small bag on the back, and as the shopping basket is so small and difficult to get stuff into, this proved to be a real pain.

I would say this pushchair is Ok for a while (say 6 -18 months) but other than that not much good. The recline facility isn't worth it for a younger baby. The other day I saw a newborn in one, the poor mite was all scrunched up and looking mightily pee-ed off!

I ended up selling it and purchasing a Maclaren Techno XT which has proved invaluable, I wish I'd bought it instead of the Micralite and not wasted money!

I've now got a 2nd child and haven't been pursuaded by looks and "trendiness"!!!

"dont waste your money"
My mum bought me the Micralite fastfold sytem with carry cot and I have had endless problems with it.

To start with it is not "fastfold" at all. In fact it's really hard to fold up. Mine gets jammed and you need a screwdriver to fold it down which means I can only go on the bus if I do not have to fold it.

The carrycot is ok but when my baby grew out of it she was too small for the pushchair. This meant I had to buy and expensive sheepskin to prop her up with and she still looked really uncomfortable.

You can adjust the seat but the two positions are very similar and both mean your little one will be sitting upright which makes it difficult for him/her to sleep. When my baby does fall asleep in it her head sort of lolls forward as there is no proper support.

You have to pay around an extra £35 for the footmuff which I think is unfair considering the Micralite is not cheap to start off with. You also have to pay extra if you want a sunshade (which you do really need). Because there is nowhere to attach a parasol or similar sunshade, you will probably have to buy the micralite version for around £29.

The pushchair's design means that there is nowhere to attach pram toys to keep your little one amused.

There is a tiny basket under the buggy for putting shopping etc but it is really difficult to get things in and out of. You cannot hang shopping on the handles.

The front wheels also tend to jam which is annoying and potentially dangerous.

Literally the only plus points about this buggy are that it is quite light and it looks trendy. I would save your money and get something cheaper.

"Don't buy this product"
Don't waste your money on this buggy. We had one for just over a year on the front wheel fell off whilst I was crossing the road with my 15mth old in situ. Given the design of the pushchair the whole thing collapsed and I was left struggling to get her out and both of us to the pavement. Very dangerous and i was lucky it wasn't a busy road. We wrote to complain to the company, with photos of what had happened. The front wheels are just jammed one and a screw inside had come loose. They haven't even responded, let alone apologised!

"great all-rounder"
I've used the Micralite with both the carrycot and maxi-cosi car-seat. My husband also loves the Micralite.

If manoverability & weight is a priority - this is a must-have travel system.

The micralite can be folded up or down with just one hand. (And even left handers can do it with one hand)

I've had nothing but positive comments about the Micralite, since I bought it.

I have taken it off-road and it has performed nearly as well as some of the 3-wheelers. But beats all 3-wheelers and other prams easily when walking around a crowded shop. Additionally, when you are giving another Mum a lift, the Micralite is small enough for another bigger buggy to also go in the boot space of my peuguet 306.

There are one or two down-sides:

1) finding a pump that will fit, has not been easy

2) Very difficult to put anything in the basket when in pushchair mode

3) Not great at reclining - if your baby needs to full asleep flat.
