A great range that's got something for all

Test length: 3 years

We love HiPP in our house. My son was weaned on their Sweet carrots and potatoes and my baby daughter is now enjoying it too. The weaning jars are perfect for tiny tastebuds and I think the consistencies for their 7 month+, 12m+ and 15+ is pretty much spot on. Simple to prerpare with colourful packaging that kids love, the range is entirely organic with no added GM ingredients or food nasties that you don't want your child to consume. There are also stacks to choose from. From fruit pots and snacks to meals, jars and drinks. The flavoured water is a hit with my daughter who refuses to drink anything other than milk normally! She also loved the meditarranean lamb and potato and cottage pie - a favourite for teatime with a rice cake to follow! I am most impressed with the organic porridges. Bay loved the banana porridge so much I've already bought another three packs. I've never seen her eat something so quickly and it's so easy to prepare, it makes getting out of the door in the morning to do the nursery run all the more easier! I would recommend HiPP to anyone wanting a quick, easy yet thorouhgly healthy option for their child. And the best thing about it? It doesn't cost the earth (like some other organic brands do)....

Best Feature: The banana porridge - wonderful!
Worst Feature: None, it's all good
Verdict: A great range that offers interesting tastes with convenience

Great Convenience food

Parent Panel review by julie - review date 25 November 2005
Texture: We tested the stage one Hipp Organic foods and the texture was very smooth, but it was not too runny that it slid off the spoon before it got to the babies mouth (or in my case the moving target). It is ideal food to start weaning babies on.

Appearance: The foods were all first stage purees, but they looked good and were the colour you would expect from that type of food.

Smell: All of the foods smelt good and most of the time you could tell from the smell what was in the jar.

Ease of use/versatility: The jars are very easy to use and can be served warm or cold, what you have not heated up can be stored in the fridge to use within 48 hours. I find they are great standby's to have in the cupboard for when you are going out for the day - you don't need to worry whether there will be anywhere to heat up the food as it can be served hot or cold. The puddings and fruit purees can also be added to yoghurt or muesli for breakfast.

Taste (mum): The food tasted quite good, but as it was the first stage of weaning some of it could be a little bland!

Taste (babies): My boys quite enjoyed the Hipp organic food, especially the penne with tomato & courgette.

Value for money: I think the Hipp Organic range is good value for money and I do buy this brand for my boys. As I said it's a great standby to have in the cupboard, especially if you are going out.

Best Feature: Consistency of the food - it's not too runny!
Worst Feature: It doesn't have one
Verdict: A great convenience food for mums and babies on the go.

Lip smackingly good

Parent Panel review by julie - review date 25 November 2005
Texture: The puree is for stage one of weaning, from 6 months, so it is very smooth. However it was not too runny like some of the purees that can fall off the spoon. Appearance: It looked like pureed apple with very small brown flecks. Smell: It definately smelt of apples and was very fruity. You could defiantely tell what was in the jar from smelling it. Ease of use/versatility: You can serve this either warm or cold and any that is left which you have not heated up can be put in the fridge for 48 hours. This could be mixed with other foods such as muesli at breakfast or with natural yoghurt. Taste (mum): I tasted this and it did taste of apples and pears it was very fruity . Taste (babies): Max and Toby loved this food, even though it is for stage one of weaning and they have moved on to more "lumpy" food they were smaking their lips for this (and I mean that literally), they were quite disappointed when the jar was finished. Value for money: I would say that this product is competatively priced and you get the same amount as you would in other brands for the same stage of weaning. If they were still at the first stage of weaning I would buy this again because they loved it so much. I could definately recommend it to mums who were starting to wean their babies.

Best Feature: Consistency was good
Worst Feature: wasn't one
Verdict: Lipsmackingly good - would definately recommend it!

I found the texture of the foods the right consistency for my 13 month son. I have found in the past that the baby foods are usually too smooth so that he just swallows them rather than chewing them.

The appearance of the food looked very appetising, it also smelt very nice as I was warming the food up. I found that the meals were just the right size for one meal for my son but you could easily store some for another meal in the fridge. I had a taste of the food and especially the turkey dinner and cassorole tasted liked a home cooked meal. My son not only liked the taste of the meals and puddings but also loves the vanilla milk and the growing up rusks.

I thought that the meals were not only made with fresh ingredients but also that they are good value for money for toddler food. The milk I think is a great alternative to ordinary milk which some toddlers find too bland. I would definately get some more of these meals they make a great stand-by. My son absolutely loves the milk and he has some as an afternoon snack along with some rusks.

Best Feature: Consistency of the meals
Worst Feature: There isn't one!
Verdict: Highly recommend the meals and milk

"great value"
I love this product as you can start given them to your baby when they are 4 months which is good for hungrier babies who aren't satisfied with milk alone. My son has at least six bottles a day and a jar of hipp organic, his favorite is vegetables, rice and chicken.

"Scrumptious!"
We have given Roxie Hipp organic since we started weaning when she was 19 weeks. She loves them. We have now moved to stage 2 and she has had no problems at all with them.

"Yum, yum, yum."
My daughter only really had these when we were eating out or having takeaway but these were by far her favourite range of babyfood.

She would eat any of these jars offered to her and her mummy really liked the apple pancakes!!

Great time saver, natural ingredients but watch out those tomato based ones stain!

"Brilliant food for little mouths and tummies."
I started trying to be wonder woman by cooking veggies and fruit for our daughter, but soon realised that I couldn't get the right consistancy and was ending up with mountains of pureed food! So I thought I would try the Hipp Organic food, as it fits with mine and my husbands view of feeding our daughter good organic produce.

Well, we started on the chicken and sweet squash and Saffy loved it! She was about 4 months at this stage and the books all say to start about 6 months - Saff wasn't going to wait for anyone or any book and wanted something other than milk! They also say in the books to start with a teaspoon of food as tastes...well that also went out the window, half a jar later and saffy was satisfied with that one!( I think it is because Saffy can't read yet and no one has told her otherwise).

The consistancy of the jar food is just right, not too wet and not too dry. Although we did try the spinach and cheese bake variety and Saffy almost screamed the house down - we now know that spinich isn't one of her favourites and come to think of it it wasn't one of mine as a child either!

I have been so impressed I have been on their website and ordered 6 packs of their dried organic cereal and breakfasts and again this has been an instant hit with Saffy. You can make it as runny or stodgy (for more texture) as you want and it is so easy to prepare that you can do it while making your coffee, the bottle of formula and trying to get yourself vaguely human in the morning!

All in all this is very good value for money, the jars and the dried foods all smell wonderful and of what they say they are on the label and they are all organic with no 'fillers'. This is exactly what busy mums need to help with weaning.

Excellent choice for little wide open mouths at tea time!

"Why Hipp over other brands"
There are so many organic baby food brands out there! After much label-reading I've tended to stick to Hipp Organic because it has less added extras.

Example: some brands add thickeners like skimmed milk powder and cornflour. Well even if they are organic, they're still filler extras you may prefer not to feed your baby. Hipp, on the other hand, tend not to have these and the consistency tends to be thick enough not to need it.

Call me old-fashioned, but I like to pay for a jar of apple and pear. Not a jar of apple, pear, water, cornflour, etc. If it needs more water, I can add that myself. If it needs thickened I can add baby rice. (But I've never had to adjust the consistency - it's always been spot-on).

"Hipp a great choice"
We have used Hipp for first stage weaning and to blend with our home made baby food for our son, he loves most of the flavours and they are well blended the glass jars mean you can heat up the food easily and they can be recyled which makes sense if you are using alot of them they have really helped us get to grips with weaning our son and have been really handy to take out too being organic was why we first chose them
