Babyworld Product ReviewsbumGenius All in One Nappy
Number of reviews: 4 Overall score: All in one cloth nappy Available from www.bgnappies.com, price £10.75 Genius? Certainly.Parent Panel review by Sarah - review date 5 May 2009Having used many different cloth nappies on each of my three children, I have fairly exacting standards as I know how well (and how badly) they can perform. I tested the small bumGenius nappies on my 3 month, 11lbs daughter, and was impressed in several ways. As an “all in one” (AIO) nappy, the absorbent part and the cover are attached, so they are as easy to use as a disposable. They fasten with Velcro which has crossover tabs for maximum adjustment. They also have foldback laundry tabs so that the Velcro doesn’t catch on other washing in the machine. Washing them is also easy – after storing in a dry bucket I simply rinsed them in the washing machine before running a normal 40 degree wash with non-biological detergent. For an older baby, solids would be shaken off into a toilet before putting them in a bucket. After a couple of pre-washes to maximise absorbency, I tested them during the daytime and overnight. They were absorbent enough for a standard four-hour stint during the day, but not absorbent enough on their own for nighttime (my daughter’s sleepsuit and vest were soaking by morning) although they have a pocket which can be stuffed with a doubler pad to increase absorbency. Containment was excellent, with no mess leaking out of the legs or up the back. As with many AIOs, the bumGenius isn’t the fastest drying nappy. It took over a day to dry on a drying rack in the house. However, this compares favourably with some other AIOs which taken even longer. There is definitely a cuteness factor with the bumGenius nappies. They come in a variety of plain colours – white, pink, yellow, green and blue – and once on they have a very neat look to them and are rounded without being overly bulky. The inner is lined with very soft, fleecy microfibre which is comfortable next to the skin and also wicks moisture into the core, so baby’s skin doesn’t feel damp. They retail at around £10.75, and whilst this isn’t cheap when you have to buy three or maybe four sets in the different sizes, I think this is a fair price for the nappies, as they combine good look, excellent performance and ease of use. Pros: easy to use, easy to wash, good for babysitters/nurseries, good containment and absorbency for daytime, lovely colours. Cons: not absorbent enough for overnight, not as cheap as a one-size system, fairly slow drying.
