Babyworld Product ReviewsThrupenny Bits Breastfeeding Pillow
Number of reviews: 4 Overall score: Beautifully made portable breastfeeding pillow Available from www.thrupennybits.co.uk, price £30.00 - £40.00 a must have for breastfeeding mumsTest length: 1 weekParent Panel review by Karen - review date 14 April 2009 I love this pillow, it is made in fabrics with mum in mind, stylish, comfortable and it's so practical and portable. It ties neatly around the waist which keeps it in the right position and it has enough height for the baby to lie on while latched on and feeding so you have your hands free. Its big enough for my 8 week old to lie on and she looks really comfortable on it after a feed. Its fully portable being lightweight with the ties for round your waist converting into a bag handle so you can put it over your shoulder and you hardly notice it weight wise, which is important when you have a hand bag and changing bag on your shoulder too. I also put in on the pram handles and I don't have to worry about it tipping a light weight pushchair that I use for my 2 year old when my 8 week old is in a sling. It's handy at home as well when my daughter breastfeeds at the dining table when we are eating our evening meal. Because it puts me a fair distance from the table I cover my daughter with a muslin to protect her from getting food on her which also protects the pillow. It works incredibly well. I found it very helpful on holiday at the weekend as we were out and about quite a lot and so its portability was particularly helpful. It's much better than my "U" shaped nursing cushion as it's not so bulky. The fabric is high quality, stylish, it converts to a bag and back again if necessary, it's light weight, comfortable and easy to use so I think it's worth every penny. I wish I had it for my 2 year old as I breastfed her until she was 16 months old! It's washable using a gentle cycle but I haven't needed to wash it during the trial. If I were to have any more babies I would definitely use it again and I have already recommended it to friends.
The best breastfeeding pillow I've seen in a long time!Test length: One weekParent Panel review by Sarah - review date 13 April 2009 Whilst pregnant with my daugher, I started looking for the perfect breastfeeding cushion. I had used a fantastic cushion with my middle child (now aged 7) and I didn't want to compromise. Everything I looked at fulfilled some of my criteria, but not all of them. Some were too soft, some were the wrong shape, some were uncomfortable for me, some slipped around too much. Most were filled with foam or hollow fibre rather than the little polystyrene balls that I had so liked with my old cushion. The Thrupenny Bits pillow ticks all the boxes. It is lightweight and comfortable, it is supportive yet mouldable, the shape is great and it is filled with the all-important polystyrene balls. As an added bonus, it ties around the waist (meaning I can pick my baby up and put her down without having to remove or reposition it - what a genius idea!), it is portable as those same ties are used as a shoulder strap, and once I no longer need it for breastfeeding it will make an excellent 'out and about' bag. I can also see myself using it to support my daughter when she has learned to sit up, as the curved shape makes it ideal for this purpose. The fabric has been chosen well - the flock fabric and courduroy of the one I tested is lovely and bright and they seem to provide grip so that my baby doesn't slip around. The pillow comes out so that the outer/bag part can be washed, which is essential when your baby has reflux. The finish is very good - no stray threads or loose seams, and even the zip on the inner bag is fixed in such a way that it can't be opened accidentally (or by curious toddler hands!) so the polystyrene balls have no chance to escape and cause a mess. The one thing I will say is that the pillow seems a little 'over full', but I realise that in time the balls will flatten, making it more malleable.
