Must have for parents with new baby & toddler

Test length: 4 months
Parent Panel review by Zeidi - review date 9 October 2006
This is a fantastic double pram. I have been using mine for 4 months and i love it. It folds compact for a double and is easy to lift in and out of the car. I have mainly used it with a toddler in the front and baby in a car seat in the back, although i have tested the other options. It is very versatile. The pram is very easy to push and feels very light. I never have problems getting it around shops, on rough terrain or getting it up and down curbs with a toddler in the front. The adjustable handles are great as i am short and their dad is tall. The seats both recline if not using the car seat. You can recline the back seat with the car seat in the front but not vice versa. The suspension is great and the disc brake does actually come in handy when you are going down a steep hill. Now for the bad bits! I bought a Jane parasol to use with mine, however, it goes in the same attachment that the car seat uses or the hood. Since a hood provides more shade than the parasol it seemed extremely pointless and i wanted to use it with the car seat! I then ordered a mamas and papas one which i can attach anywhere i wished. It requires different clips to attach the car seat on the front and back. This isnt very handy if you want to swap toddler into the back for a nap and you dont have the right clips with you. The brake is very difficult to take off and i find myself either not using it or if i have to i generally have to take it off with my hand! It may be easier with trainers/boots but certainly not with summer sandals. Finally, in order to lock the front swivel wheel there is a little catch that you twist on the front of the pram, right by my toddlers feet. Needless to say he often locks the wheel which i really hate as it isnt as easy to manouvre when locked. Im not sure if any of these issues have been addressed with the new 2006 edition. Despite these minor flaws i would not be without my powertwin, to sum up, it's fab.

Best Feature: Front swivel wheel, 2 reclining seats, adjustable handles, ability to use with 2 newborns
Worst Feature: Cant use hood or car seat with Jane parasol as it uses same attachment.
Verdict: Fantastic double pram, highly recommended

"Good for a Twin pushchair"
Nothing out there currently fits my requirements but this is the closest thing to ok on the market - I should know I have either owned of carefully examined all the rest. What I was looking for was a twin that isn't too heavy folds down easily, will go through a door, fit in the boot, can take a car seat and faces me so I can talk to my kids. The only issue with this one is my last requirement. I can talk to one of them. But hey at least its not a phil and ted or similar. I watched the child at the back put her fingers in the back wheel when I was sat at the traffic lights. Poor little girl that design is totally floored even with the tiny guard!

"good pushchair, worth the price??"
hi, i brought this pushchair after struggling to get on and off public transport with a side by side.

In total i used my pushchair for 8 months. It was an excellant pushchair to start with, easy and smooth to push, brilliant to get on and off public transport. Slightly big and bulky, but find if putting into a larger car boot. Quite heavy to life but over all i was really happy with this pushchair to start with. But however, after about 6 months of usage, and i mean usage, i used my buggy every day! it started turning to the right uncontroably! after about two weeks i got fed up when it tiped over in the road and nearly lost both of my children out of it. I send it back to Jane to be repaired, long story short, it got sent back 3 times, each time they returned it without doing anything. On the last time i got my money back. All i wanted was to get it fixed as was orignally happy with the product. I may have just been unlucky, but i would personally not buy another Jane product, simply for the fact that they sent it back to me three times without even so much as trying to fix the problem.

However all in all a good pushchair, just poor customer service, this making me question if its worth the money, my view, no! If your paying that kind of money, you expect a good product and good customer service if something does go wrong.

"1st Class double buggy"
After reading many reviews & much hard thinking i decided that the Jane powertwin wa uld be best for me.

Having struggled with my previous double buggy for my two boys i decided the best thing i could do for myself was to spend money on the best buggy i could get for my new addition especially i will be joining the school run from Sept.

Then they brought out the Phil & Ted Vibe & the Mama's & Papa's duette. Having never had a pram for any of my babies i was really moved towards the M & P & i love the look of the vibe.

After much deliberation i decided to go with my head not my heart & bought the powertwin. I got my off ebay not for the cost but actually because i wanted a neutral colour ( in case i need a pink cosy toes this time lol ) It arrived in perfect condition even though this was well used & even with no instructions i had it assembled in seconds. I decided to test run it ( just to be sure ) and took it out with my 18 month old in the back & my 3 1/2 year old in the front. I couldn't believe how easy it was to push & i am 6 months pregnant & i can say i am honestly delighted with my purchase.

We tried it again today & my friend & i walked all the way town ( 40 mins ) i had my youngest & her 16 month old in the Jane & my eldest in our single 3 wheeler & the twin was lighter the double so i breezed along with the 2 babies & my bump & my friend was knackered!!!

Anyway i feel this was the best choice to make & am really happy. It's light, easy to push, it folds incredibly small & i feel excellent value for money. Plus they hold their price well 2nd hand.

"A must have product"
I bought the powertwin after reading several reviews on different sites. My main aim was to have a travel system suitable for twins. This has been absoutely fantastic.it is so easy to attach the car seats to without having to disturb the babies. It is lightweight and easy to fold.It can be pushed easily with one hand which is a must with a lively three year old as well. It is great in shops and no problems getting in and out of doors. Overall I would recommend this buggy particularly for anybody having twins. It may seem a bit pricey but definitely well worth the money.

"Amazingly versatile, don't think twice about buying this pram!!"
I had the Jane slalom for my little boy before my girl was born so I already knew how good Jane's three wheelers were.

I don't have a car and live in a first floor flat so I had to find a pushchair that was strong, hardwearing, light, compact and easy to fold. I also wanted something that would fit easily through doors and in lifts. The powertwin does all of these things and more and looks great while it does it! I have had lots of people stop and ask me about it in the street (lots of men are also impressed by the disk brake so it is a good pram to get dad's involved in doing some of the donkey work)!

I haven't had any problems with the pram (touch wood) and there is only one thing I'm not keen on. I'd quite like it if you could have your toddler in the back seat and put your baby in the car seat at the front so that they could see each other but there is no leg room for the toddler if you do this.

Overall this is a very impressive puschair that has withstood very heavy use. I was particularly impressed by it's ability to fit into small spaces. It's actual body isn't any longer or wider than the slalom (the handle is slightly longer) so it will even fit comfortably in those tiny lifts meant for one wheelchair.

Getting it up the stairs is not a problem either because it is so light and folds up so small that I can carry my toddler as well as bumping it up the stairs. There is a clip to keep it shut once it is folded which is very handy and it folds up smaller than the slalom. I once managed to get the powertwin, 2 adults, three children, and two small pushchairs into my friend's nissan micra!

You can recline the front seat slightly when the car seat is on the back if you lift that end of the car seat slightly as you push the front seat back but my son would sleep in it even when he was upright! You can also mess around with the positions of the hoods when they are attached and if your baby will sit a bit more upright in the back seat, you can make the hood into a little coccoon which is remarkably rain and sun proof (looks a bit eccentric though).

I use my powertwin with waterproof footmuffs and have never needed the double raincover (when my daughter was in the car seat I used a car seat raincover) as my toddler kicks it and it comes off the baby at the back. My daughter still fits in the car seat but she likes to sit in the pram so she can see out.

I rely on having a good pram (on average I walk at least 6 miles a day with it and occassionally use buses trains and cars) and I would be lost without it! It makes my life a lot easier and is very good value for money. Especially when you compare the price with some single seater prams.

Don't order from two left feet though, they took my money straight away, told me it would be between three and five working days. It didn't come and eventually after staying at home for a week and a half and an e-mail saying it had been dispatched I called them on the number you are not supposed to call them on and they told me they had no record of the order. I said they had already taken my money and lied to me about it having been dispatched (they only did this when I emailed to ask why it had not come). Eventually they said they would dispatch it with next day delivery and it did come but they expected me to be grateful that they didn't charge me extra for this service!

"Not as great as I hoped"
Was v.excited when I found this as side by side double pushchair aren't really an option for us. While it's really well made, looks great and is narrow & therefore ideal for busy streets, personally I think it falls down slightly on a couple of points.

1) We couldn't use the luxury footmuff on the front as it hangs over the wheel, my toddler is not hugely tall but is visibly uncomfortable if we try to put her in with the footmuff on. She needed to be quite tightly strapped in to hold her in the front seat.

2) Toddler on front - feet hang down. Even without the footmuff she is pretty scrunched up and only has the little front plate to rest her feet on. Also, her feet catch on the swivel lock on the front wheel.

3) Difficult to steer if the toddler has fallen asleep or is sitting leaning slightly to one side, ie. veers off to the side. Feels slightly like a supermarket trolley! Exhausting to push after a while!

It's a good, well made pushchair but if anyone has a toddler who is tall for their age it isn't particularly comfortable for them which is unfortunate when they're still too little for a buggy board. Still prefer this to the E3 but don't think anyone has come up with the ideal design as yet!

"What a great pushchair"
I was soo thrilled with getting this product, i could noit find it anywhere where i lived and i e mailed bw shop and was given the advice i needed..

Is very easy to put together and is great for my 2yr old to sit in the front, we tested him out in it when we received it and he loves it, think he makes him feel like a proper big boy.

Loved how easy it was for the rebel seat to be placed in the front and how easy it was to get out as well to place bubba in the car

Even though people said it was expensive i found it was well worth the money and was soo very pleased with the product, i find if you are pleased with the product then money is not a issue!!

I love it and cant wait for the new arrival so we can test it out on her!!!!

"Brilliant for cities."
I was dubious about buying this double as it initially seemed a lot of money. However, it has turned out to be worth every penny. My son loved it at 19 months and my daughter always seemed comfortable (from birth in the reclined back seat.)

I didn't buy the car seat and therefore the harness was a little high around the neck for a new born but the seat sizes are lovely toddler even sleeps in this on occasions where he is really tired as it is so nicely padded.

Versatility was important to me, living in a city and shopping often. I liked the fact I can push this up a hill in a country park just as easily as I can around the local shopping area. Colour is also great as it isn't too gaudy and actually looks very smart. A twin buggy to be proud of and made from excellent quality materials. Fits in the back of my Focus with ease. Only negative is that a tall toddler can kick the catch that locks the front wheel with their feet!

"Must have - few downsides!"
I have an 18 month daughter and a 4 week old. I spent ALOT of time researching and looking for a double buggy/tandem to suit my needs. I decided that a side by side just did not suit my needs. I need something that was easy to get around shops, would fit in the boot of my 3 door car and most importantly the handle height had to be right.

For me the best feature is the handle height on the powertwin. It is adjustable from 96cm - 103, I am only 5' tall and found that most tandems were far too high for me but the powertwin is absolutely perfect and the adjustable height means that my partner can adjust it to the higher setting so it's perfect for him too.

The 3 wheels and pneumatic tyres make it a doddle to push, even with a toddler sat out front. Infact I was amazed at how easy it is to maneuver even in the smallest space and the up the steepest of curbs. I would even say it was easier than my light weight buggy!

All 3 wheels are extremely easy to remove and the front foot rest folds down making it easy to fit in the car (although I only remove the back wheels for more space in the boot).

The folding mechanism is easy to use. The hoods are great and cover both children really well - they are also removable.

Although the rear seat is suitable from birth I found I had to use a seperate head hugger as the straps could not be adjusted small enough.

The front seat reclines still leaving room in the back which is great if my toddler decides to have a nap.

The obvious downside is the price but although this pushchair is expensive it really does look and feel well made.

All in all I am extremely happy with this pushchair!

"best buy!"
I spent hours trawling through reveiws on double/tandem pushchairs and this was the one which nobody had a bad word to say about,i can now see why!It is so easy to use,my newborn goes in the carseat at the back but also this can be put at the front if my 2 yr old is tired(as you can't recline the front seat with the car seat at the back)and there is enough room under it for his legs to move comfortably which you cant tell from the pictures. The only thing i would say is to use it without the bumper bar on at the front if your older child is in and out often as if they catch their legs, the pushchair tends to tip, this does not happen at any other time as it is very sturdy and safe.Overall a fantastic buggy which i will be sad to stop using once my 2yr old decides he wants yo walk everywhere.

"Fantastic Double"
I bought the Powertwin to replace my rather flimsy and unreliable side-by-side as I really wanted a tandem to go through narrow doorways. It is both at home on country walks as it's an ATP and in the city centre as it nips around shops and through small gaps.

As the back seat is slightly higher it isn't much longer than a single ATP and with a front swivel wheel it can turn on a sixpence. It is incredibly light to push with my 2 year old and 6 month old and still easy to push with one hand when my toddler wants to walk. It has an adjustable handlebar and both front and back brakes and can apparently be used for running! The basket is quite small but I can fit a couple of bags of shopping in it.

I have the basic model but will be buying the Rebel carseat when my next is born to convert it into a travel system for baby with a seat for my son. (Can also be used with two Rebel carseats).

Despite being a double the wheels are quickly removed to make it fold down quite small in the boot. I only don't give it a 5 for ease of use as I have to fight to remove and fit the front hood (only necessary as my car has a narrow boot).

At £400 (or £365 on Babyworld) it is quite expensive but comparable with the E3 and well worth the money.
