Swim nappies - overview

<< back to main page

We've tested a variety of swim nappies so you can get a good idea of the best style for your baby. Regular water babes will benefit from a high quality nappy with a good level of absorbency that will grow and stretch as they do. But if it's purely for holiday use, there are plenty of colourful, fun and slightly cheaper options that keep accidents in, with less impact on your purse.

Check the results table below and read the individual parent panel reviews to see how each nappy performed. The final results were very close but remember, the overall score isn't always the one to go on - make sure you look at the individual results to see how they scored in each category.

Our parent panel comments on the following:

Ease of use

Our panel were most impressed with the Happy Nappy which was 'easy to pull on without the need for elastic, ties or velcro'. They also liked the Jo Jo Maman Bebe, Zoggs and Blooming Marvellous Swim nappies for their 'light material that pulled up into place quickly and easily'.

The Kushies had a 'smart design' that fitted well but 'was a bit temperamental to put on at times as the velcro kept coming undone'. The overall opinion was that these nappies are 'great once they're correctly fitted' but it 'can take time to get it comfy for baby'. One of our mums even managed to put it on the wrong way round! Similarly, our panel found the Mother-Ease swim nappy a 'bit of a pain to fit correctly as the poppers were quite difficult to do up'.

Practicality

Our panel found the most practical nappies were the ones that were adjustable and able to accommodate baby throughout their first or second year. The Zoggs nappy was a popular choice as it had a 'drawstring waist to ensure a good fit' and 'could easily be used as baby grows'. Likewise, the Kushies swim nappy scored points for its adjustable leg opening that would 'fit for a good few months' and 'accommodate expanding botties fairly well!' They also liked the Velcro tabs on the side that 'were very useful for taking off a soiled nappy'.

The Happy Nappy won points for its 'hassle-free fit' which is 'perfect for taking on holidays or short trips to the swimming pool as it's so quick and easy to put on'. Similarly the Jo Jo Maman Bebe Swim Nappy didn't have velcro or poppers, making it 'very practical, simple and easy to use'.

The Mother-Ease swim nappy was made of 'swimsuit style material that was stretchy enough to fit a baby for a good few months', though our panel 'didn't feel it was suitable for a younger baby as it didn't give a close enough fit'.

Absorbency

Our panel liked the 'brilliant lining' fixed into the Kushies nappy. They were also quite impressed with the 'soft towelling that soaked up the majority of leaks and trapped solids'.

The material on the Happy Nappy was described as 'thick and soft' with a 'reasonable amount of absorption'. The Jo Jo Maman Bebe and Blooming Marvellous were also praised for their 'nice material and elastic outer rim that prevents leaks and little accidents'.

Our mums found that the Mother Ease swim nappy was 'less absorbent than the other nappies in the test' whilst the Zoggs nappy had 'nice, soft material but did leak on a few occasions'.

Style/comfort

The Jo Jo Maman Bebe scored well on design and our panel liked 'the nice frills for the girls and simple designs for the boys'. The Zoggs and Blooming Marvellous nappies were also a favourite with our panel who described them as having 'great designs for both boys and girls'. They also liked the 'lightweight, summery material that looked and felt very comfy for the babies'.

The Happy Nappy comes in a variety of colours with contrasting ribbing but our panel weren't too keen on the 'bright, bold colours'. With regards to comfort, they performed very well and our panel liked the 'super-soft material next to baby's skin'.

The Kushies were described as having a 'fussy' design that was 'a tad on the bright side', though they were found to be 'very comfortable, especially for younger babies who don't wriggle around as much'.

Quality

Our panel were impressed with the Happy Nappy's 'high quality material and design'. Similarly the Jo Jo Maman Bebe and Blooming Marvellous nappies were described as having an 'ultra-snug fit that is hard to find with some swim nappies'.

The Zoggs nappy scored well on quality due to its 'soft, light material that looked as good as new, even after being washed'. Both the Zoggs and Kushies nappies were 'ultra-quick to dry' but our panel felt the Mother-ease nappy was 'a bit cheap looking'.
