About eco-friendly disposables

If you want the flexibility of a disposable without the guilt of sending all that chemical waste to landfill, eco-friendly disposables are likely to be right up your alley.

Made from biodegradable materials like wood pulp and cotton, eco-friendly nappies are much kinder to the environment and can be disposed of with your usual waste or (if the brand is compostable) on a wormery in your back garden.

Babies with skin allergies like eczema may also benefit as many eco-friendly brands are un-bleached with minimum amounts of gel or lotions.

Our panel have tested five different types of nappies over a 7 week period and conclude that 'absorbency, comfort and fit vary massively between brands'.

They also advise to 'check packaging before you buy' - 'some of the nappies came wrapped individually which is ridiculous and totally unnecessary, especially since they're supposed to be eco-friendly'.

Which nappies won?

A clear winner for Best Buy was Moltex - 'a super nappy that's comfortable and a cut above the rest in terms of absorbency and fit'. Our panel awarded best value to Nature Baby , a good performer that carries the same price point as a basic disposable nappy'.

We tested for:

  • Absorbency
  • Packaging/ethical values
  • Leak prevention
  • Breathability
  • Fit/Comfort
  • Quality/value for money
