About this testFinding good, reliable nappies is no mean feat - especially when you've got a tot who grows at a rate of knots, wriggles around or dislikes the entire nappy changing process! Most mums find their favourite nappies through trial and error, but this month we've done all the hard work for you with our biggest ever nappy test. We recruited a staggering 36 mums to test a whole host of different nappies over a two month period. The brands tested include disposables and eco-friendly disposables, but we've also looked into the mind-boggling maze that is reusables - revealing what works and what doesn't in the wonderful world of washable nappies. It's Real Nappy Week 2008 and the theme is Combat Climate Change. Nappies we've testedPoints to considerNappies vary massively in terms of style, size, suitability for your tot and of course, price. A major finding from this test was that 'price isn't always a good indicator of performance' with some of the less expensive nappies coming up trumps for absorbency, comfort and fit. Our panel also felt that 'different styles suited different tots and what worked brilliantly for one mum was another's disaster'. Of course, there's also that little matter of the environment. You'd have to have been hidden away in a cave to have missed the debate surrounding disposables and reusables in recent years. To summarise, it seems that reusables are more eco-friendly but only if you are prepared to air dry them (recent studies revealed that tumble drying them equates to as much environmental damage as sending disposable nappies to landfill). Our panel advise to 'think about your options carefully' before you invest in nappies: 'with the right advice, knowledge and resources, nappies needn't cost a fortune and you're more likely to find a collection that fits your tots bot, and your lifestyle perfectly'.
