Cardboard Toddler Chairs - 7.5/10

Re-cycled cardboard chairs that your child can construct and decorate

Price: £14.95
www.ecotopia.co.uk
T: 0845 094 2181

'Original and fun'

These chairs are 'easy and fun to assemble'. Made from sturdy, robust cardboard that will stand the test of time, they can be decorated with crayons, pens and paints to create something that really showcases your child's creative talents. They are good for different age ranges and our panel found that 'the two year olds enjoyed them equally as much as the three year olds'.

'You have to prevent your child from rushing to put them together as the cardboard can get dented' (they become a lot sturdier once constructed). The fun factor also starts to diminish once the decorating has finished but the good news is that 'they'll last well and make great desk/ lounging chairs for your toddler!'

Giant Cardboard Rocket - 9/10

Decorative space rocket to encourage creativity and role-play

Price: £27.50
www.lulasapphire.co.uk
T: 0870 850 7541

'A hit with everyone!'

This is a great size and can easily hold two or three toddlers at a time. It's bigger than expected but it can be folded down for storage which is fantastic if you want to de-clutter the house for some adult time. 'It's great for imaginative play and was loved by both toddlers and parents who had hours of fun putting it together and decorating it'. The size means that your child has plenty of blank canvas to decorate and they'll love having their own little den to play in.

'Fairly tricky to assemble, it took two adults to get it into place!' Again you have to be careful when putting it together as it can rip quite easily (though the instructions do warn you of this). .

Outdoor Shapes Skittles - 8/10

Brightly painted wooden skittles set.

Price: £16.80
www.arujo.co.uk
T: 01295 271218

''A wonderful set that will last forever'

Made from Sri Lankan rubber wood, these skittles are delightfully painted in gorgeous shapes and colours. They are presented in a wooden box so you can neatly pack them away after use and our panel found that they were enjoyed by all of the toddlers - especially when playing with adults.

The fun factor wore off quicker than expected and our panel felt they'd be best enjoyed by a large group in the garden during the summer. They also seemed to appeal more to the older toddlers though the 2 year olds enjoyed throwing the balls around

Playmais Modelling Bricks - 8.5/10

Biodegradable blocks of maize that stick together with water

Price: £12.50 for 1,000 bricks
www.earthlets.co.uk
T: 0845 072 4462

'Top of the list for creativity'

These blocks are very easy to use and 'all of the toddlers got the hang of it quickly'. The set includes a blunt plastic knife and wooden sticks to help your child mould the pieces into certain shapes and it's refreshingly mess-free. The perfect activity for a rainy day, the biodegradable maize pieces are dyed with food colouring and can be composted after use.

Best enjoyed by the older children - 'the 2 year olds weren't quite at the stage to co-ordinate themselves to make something, they just enjoyed playing with the tools and trying to cut the pieces!'

Snail Number Puzzle - 7//10

Fair Trade wooden jigsaw to encourage counting and colour/shape recognition

Price: £5.99
www.makesachange.co.uk
T: 07841 070580

'A sweet educational toy for small toddlers'

This is a lovely educational toy for a toddler who's just learning to count, but also for a smaller baby who enjoys bright colours and shapes. 'It's exceptional value for money and looks great as a decorative toy too'.

The numbers only go up to 5 so it's quite limiting for a toddler who has started to learn counting. It's also quite small and it's easy to misplace the pieces.

Wooden Train set - 6/10

Two position height adjustable swing with reclining seat

Price: £9.99
www.naturalnursery.co.uk
T: 0845 890 1665

'A lovely classic gift'

Made from sustainably sourced eco-friendly wood, this cute little train set is a traditional, simple toy with some lovely accessories for role-playing. 'Easy to put together and assemble', the quality is wonderful and it is 'fun for a young toddler who is just starting to experiment with more creative toys'.

'It's quite limiting in terms of interest for an older child' and there's nothing dramatically different about it apart from the wood source used.
