FurnitureCots come in a variety of designs from modern to traditional and may be bought as part of a matching range of furniture. Some are designed so that they can convert into a bed. Chests of drawers Some of these are designed to double as a place for nappy changing and usually feature a plastic mat on top plus a raised section at the back and sides to protect the baby from falling. If your budget permits, you can usually buy a chest of drawers to match your cot, and a wardrobe too. Wardrobes There are wonderful children's wardrobes available ranging from traditional wooden designs with hand painted motifs to fun curvaceous designs in modern plastics. Most feature a low hanging rail so that a younger child can reach his clothes, and one or two shelves above for storage. However, while a scaled-down wardrobe can be a ideal for a small nursery and may also co-ordinate with the rest of the nursery furniture, it can be quite costly and will be outgrown after a few years. You can buy a secondhand wardrobe for a fraction of the price and paint or decorate it yourself. Nursing chair You will need a comfortable easy chair or rocking chair in the nursery for feeding and cuddling. You may decide to borrow an existing armchair from another room and perhaps recover it to match the nursery decor, though you should check its comfortable, low and roomy enough for breastfeeding in first. A rocking chair can be invaluable for rocking your baby to sleep. You can buy these new or secondhand and furnish them with comfortable cushions. Table A small table is very useful to keep near your nursing chair to hold drinking water for you when youre feeding. When your baby grows older he will enjoy sitting at a child-sized table himself so, although it may seem a long way off, its worth choosing one he can use in the future too. There is a good choice of childrens tables and chairs available in either wood or plastic or you can buy a small plain table and customise it yourself.
