Womens Health
Drs Mary Ann Lumsden and Martha Hickey
Thorsons, paperback, £12.99, 309 pages
This comprehensive text, covering everything from puberty to older
age, was put together by the Royal College of Obstetricians and
Gynaecologists. With that kind of gestation, you know it will cover
everything under the sun relating to womens health.
Its packed with information on how the body works and the most
common problems that can be encountered then deals with natural stages
including pregnancy and childbirth, as well as two very sensitively
written chapters on infertility and losing a baby.
There is even a sterling chapter on unplanned pregnancy which would
help any woman in a complicated situation to make things a little bit
clearer.
There are useful addresses to find out more and a glossary to help
you decipher medical terms you may have come across but not
understood.
Inevitably, because it covers almost an entire lifetime in one
reference text you may find out that it doesnt offer enough
information on pregnancy and childbirth while you are actually
pregnant. But as a book that you will return to for guidance for five
decades or more, it has to be worth purchasing.
