You may begin to
notice that you're gaining weight and that your breasts are heavier. Wearing a good
supporting bra may make you feel more comfortable.
If you've been feeling
sick, this will probably start to ease off by the end of week 12. You may begin to
feel less tired too,
though other discomforts, such as constipation, gum problems or nasal problems may
continue. Any likes or dislikes you've developed about what you want to eat and drink may remain
too.
Towards the end of this stage, your hormones will have settled down and you may feel
less emotionally vulnerable. Most women find that their emotions stay heightened
throughout their pregnancy, though.

Your baby becomes a
recognisable tiny form (7cm long - about the length of your index finger), with a large
head. By the end of week 12, all the organs are formed, the arms and legs are longer,
though still very thin, and the fingers and toes have developed.
The baby will be moving around, kicking his arms and legs and turning his head,
although you won't be able to feel it yet. The external sex organs have formed to the
point that if you were able to see, you could just about tell if its a boy or girl.
The face is already developing the features that will give it its own unique appearance.
Your baby is now a foetus. |
In the UK, you'll
probably have your first
antenatal appointment around week 12. You'll no doubt have a lot of questions you want
to ask, so write them down beforehand as you think of them, so that you don't forget them.
Make enquiries about what antenatal classes* are available (ask your midwife, doctor,
friends, colleagues, neighbours). For NCT antenatal classes, tel 0181 992 8637 to find
your local teacher. Some classes are filled very quickly in some areas, so you may need to
book early.
If you're having a dating ultrasound
scan, this may be done now. A CVS test
can be done at around 11 weeks, and a nuchal fold scan between 10
and 14 weeks.
All pregnancies are different, so don't worry if you're not experiencing everything
exactly as it says here. |
