HeadachesSome women suffer headaches, especially early in pregnancy. These may be caused by widening of blood vessels in the brain. Low blood sugar levels may also cause headaches. Migraines may get worse in pregnancy – or a lot better. Ask your doctor whether it is safe to continue with your usual medication. Tension headaches are generally felt round the back of the head and across the forehead. If you are getting a lot of tension headaches, try and work out the cause of your anxiety. Headaches can also be caused by swelling in your sinuses. If you are getting regular headaches at work, it may be helpful to consider whether your posture or eyestrain is to blame.
What can I do about them?
Headache AlertContact your midwife, if your headache is not relieved by paracetamol or you have visual disturbances (spots in front of your eyes, blurred vision) or you have severe upper abdominal pain/indigestion. These may be signs of pre-eclampsia. << Pregnancy: the physical experience
