Pregnancy - the physical experience

As your baby grows inside you, your body goes through a massive set of changes, affecting all your organs and body systems. These changes are so dramatic and far-reaching that it’s perhaps not surprising that many have side effects, leading to minor physical problems and discomforts.

Although these problems are usually described as minor (which in relative terms they are), they may seem far from it while you are experiencing them! In most cases, though, there are things that you can do to relieve the symptoms. Furthermore, most of these minor problems will disappear within a few weeks (or even days) of giving birth.

Remember! Do not take any medication – or use any alternative remedies – during pregnancy without asking your midwife, doctor or pharmacist, or qualified alternative practitioner.
