Celebrity
secrets
We can't help being a little bit curious about how celebrities
lose their baby weight in a few weeks, instead of months (or years). Read
the following methods to see if any are achievable (and desirable!) by
a normal mum.
Isla - No diets, I'm breastfeeding
Isla Fisher gave birth to Sacha Baron Cohen's baby girl, Olive, in October
and was back to her pre-pregnancy weight within three weeks. But the tiny
actress, who ballooned to such a huge size while pregnant that she couldn't
fit behind the steering wheel of her beloved Mini Cooper, vowed to stay
clear of any faddish diets after the birth. Instead she is thought to
have lost the extra pounds naturally through breastfeeding.
Mel's Dancing with the Stars
Scary Spice Mel B lost two stone after the April birth of her daughter
by dieting and regular 90 minute workouts including Capoeira - a Brazilian
martial art - and yoga. But she really toned up her body and shrunk her
waistline after daily vigorous training sessions for Dancing with the
Stars, the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, where the Spice mum came
second. Tango anyone?
Gwen's simple maths
Gwen Stefani accredits her ability to get back to her pre-pregnancy weight
as 'simple maths.' There aren't any tricks," she admitted. "It's simple
math: you put this much food in, you burn that much working out. I gave
myself three months." The singer says she has always struggled to stay
in shape and worked out throughout her whole pregnancy up until two weeks
before the birth. "I cried during my last session. I was like, 'I can't
breathe, I can't do this anymore. What am I doing?' It was crazy." She
also admitted that having an incentive to lose the weight helped. "If
I didn't have an album coming out, there's no way I would have gotten
back into shape in that time."
Angie's 'Busy Mum' plan
Although criticised for losing too much weight after the birth of her
daughter Shiloh, the Hollywood icon and mother of four says the weight
has fallen off her simply by being a busy working mum. "I've always been
lean and this year I lost my mom and I've gone through a lot," she protested
against reports that she wasn't eating properly. "I have four kids and
I finished breastfeeding."
Cate Blanchett's active boys
Australian actress Cate, who is currently pregnant with her third child,
says she's not a fan of the gym. However, she keeps her weight at bay
during her pregnancies - despite indulging in bizarre cravings for dill
pickles and ice-cream - by staying active, and then sheds the last baby
pounds after the birth by running around after her two sons.
Myleen's post pregnancy gluttony
Singer and TV host Myleen Klass wowed onlookers when she arrived at
London's South Bank having regained her revered figure just six weeks
after giving birth to daughter Ava Quinn. Apparently the star allowed
herself a couple of weeks of "gluttony" after the birth, before embarking
on a punishing training regime of running and stomach crunches to get
back in shape.
Heidi's just an everyday mum
Less than a year after having her third child, Heidi Klum, showed off
her post baby figure in the new Jordache jeans ad campaign. Her secret?
The model and wife of singer Seal, says she keeps fit just by being an
everyday mum. "I have three children," she said. "That keeps you busy
all the time. I work and we do a lot of things that are active. We work
in the garden. We jump on the trampoline. I just started playing tennis
with my husband. We climb in the tree house with the children. We go to
the park and feed the ducks. We are always mobile."
Catherine gets groovy
Welsh starlet Catherine Zeta Jones famously piled on three stones
when pregnant with son Dylan thanks to giving in to food cravings. She
admitted, "I was like: 'Oh, who gives a s**t? I'll have another burger!'"
She shifted the weight after the birth by following the Atkins diet but
vowed, during her second pregnancy with daughter Cerys not to go down
the same route. Instead, she ensured she did half an hour's exercise each
day throughout the nine months and ate lots of fresh fruit and veggies,
carbs and smaller amounts of protein. She completely cut out sugar and
massively reduced her fat intake.
After the pregnancy, she carried on exercising by playing golf and
boogying away instead of hitting the gym, which she says she hates.
Jordan's juice diet
A mere eight weeks after Jordan gave birth to second child Junior
on June 13 last year, she was looking amazingly slim in a pair of what
looked like skimpy underwear pants and a tight top. And, even more unbelievable
(and sickening) is that she took longer to lose these two stone than after
her pregnancy with first son Harvey.
Jordan attributed her rapid weight loss to exchanging a normal meal
with vitamin-packed fruit and veg drinks, including such mouth-watering
combinations as avocado, pineapple, spinach and celery, which she said,
"sounds revolting but it's delicious". She drank these concoctions twice
a day and then had chicken or fish with vegetables in the evening, keeping
well clear of carbs.
Liz Hurley became a hermit
Glamorous Liz Hurley couldn't bear the world to see her looking anything
but svelte so locked herself away in friend Elton John's countryside mansion
until she had dropped her pregnancy weight. She spent hours every day
exercising and followed a very strict diet of mountains of meat, vegetables
and brown rice. Just 12 weeks later Liz appeared in photoshoot for Pop
magazine looking fantastic but was it really worth it? One wonders, when
she admits that what she put herself through for a perfect body nearly
'killed' her.
Pass the paella, Posh
Victoria Beckham, the epitome of slim, was apparently 'addicted'
to fatty foods during her third pregnancy with son Cruz, not that you
would have noticed thanks to her tidy bump which husband David described
as 'cute'. However, she did follow a healthy eating plan, as suggested
by Spanish doctors, to get back to her tiny figure soon after Cruz's birth.
The secret lay in following a normal Spanish diet, apparently. Victoria
indulged her love of Iberian cuisine, eating lots of paella, olives and
omelettes to shed the pounds, as her spokesperson revealed to the Daily
Star. "She really does love Spanish food which is really healthy anyway.
She's not a big exercise fan. She's just done it by eating healthy food."
Ole!
Jessie ate sensibly on weekdays
Ex-Eastenders star Jessie Wallace (aka Kat Slater) admitted to eating
all the wrong foods during her pregnancy with daughter Tallulah Lilac.
However, she was soon back in her size 10 jeans through healthy eating
and dieting. Following the celeb trend of cutting back on carbs, Jessie
instead opted for loads of fish and chicken salads and cut out sweeties,
allowing herself a dietary holiday every Sunday. She also kept a treadmill
in front of the telly which she used half an hour a day and stayed away
from scales, preferring to monitor her weight loss by how well (or not)
her old size 10 jeans fit.
Gabby Logan's exercise regime
Within a few weeks of giving birth to twins Reuben and Lois last
July, ITV football presenter Gabby Logan slimmed down to an enviable size
10. How on earth did she do that? Admittedly, some of the hard work started
in pregnancy, when Gabby only consumed an extra 400 calories (200 per
baby, as per the recommended intake) per day and followed a special diet
designed by nutritionist Dr Gowri Motha. She told Closer magazine, "I
wasn't going to use my pregnancy as a green light to gorge myself" and
replaced junk food with lots of chicken, fruit, veggies and salads.
Gabby also followed a regular exercise regime of swimming, yoga,
dog-walking and low-impact cardio workouts with a personal trainer three
times a week throughout her pregnancy.
