It may seem obvious but are you sure you're getting it right every time? It's all in the timing you know! Given that most women are only fertile for up to 24 hours it's a miracle that anyone 'accidentally' falls pregnant! Conception's a real case of hit or miss and depends on all kinds of factors. But you and your partner can give yourselves a real fighting chance by:
- finding out the secrets of conception
- making sure you're in the best possible health by preparing for pregnancy
- Double checking you've done everything you should by going through our pre-pregnancy checklist
- And by making use of our ovulation tool to ensure you make love during your most fertile period
Bear in mind that one in ten couples take more than a year to conceive. By all means chat with your GP about your concerns, but he or she will probably recommend that you give yourself at least a year to fall pregnant - a bit longer if you've been on the pill for years. If you still haven't conceived after 12 months of trying, you'll need to start investigating your options.
Your GP will probably carry out some of the more basic, preliminary tests. He or she might also refer you on to a specialist infertility clinic or gynaecologist at any stage for a more thorough investigation. Once the cause of infertility has been established, there may be several options open to you.
