Success happens: meet Kate Ulman
Meet Kate Ulman, a babyworld member who is currently having ICSI fertility treatment.
"My husband, Chris, is a technical author and I am a special needs teacher. We met three years ago and married 18 months ago. We love travelling, although the ICSI treatment has got in the way of that both in terms of finance and time! We knew we wanted children together and when we realised there may be problems we decided that it would be wise to try ICSI while we're both young to increase our chances of success (Chris is 30 and I am 28). Chris is Birmingham City's only supporter and is also a keen football player. This is fine with me as I get to partake in my favourite past time without male interference once a fortnight - shopping!"
Kate has been keeping a pregnancy diary with babyworld since the middle of August and agreed to let us feature her on these pages. Heres a taster of her first entry:
It's the middle of August, and as I'm a teacher I'm away from the daily rush-around of work. Usually I'd be away for a few weeks travelling, but not this year. This year is a totally new adventure for which there isn't (yet) a Rough Guide. It's called ICSI, and it isn't a Greek Island, it's a form of IVF treatment.
The whole process actually started nearly a year ago, after months of unsuccessful attempts at becoming pregnant, and by chance reading an article about infertility levels amongst men who had hernia operations in the groin area, as small children. Alarm bells rang as my husband had had such surgery as a young child. Unfortunately details of what happened are sketchy as both his parents are no longer with us and his medical records from that time have been lost.
