Baby books: *6 months to 12 months*

THIS MONTH'S FAVE RAVE:
Family Faces, by Jane Kemp and Clare Walters, illustrated by Marjolein Pottie
This colourful board book presents a smiling portrait of a different family member on each page, from Cheerful Dad through to Kind Grandad.

At the end we find Birthday Boy and Birthday Girl, who are twin brother and sister. Lift the flap, and under the bold picture of each person is a more detailed scene showing what everyone is doing to prepare for the twins’ first birthday.

Dad of a nine-month-old comments: "I like the family focus of this book. I can imagine we’ll use it right up to my daughter’s next birthday at least!"

HONOURABLE MENTION:
Playing, by Atsuko Morozumi
Here’s a gentle story presented in a shaped board book, with fold-out flaps, that cleverly reflects a young child’s world.

Each play item, such as a pile of bricks or a cardboard box, is shown on one page, and opposite is a young bunny playing with it. There is a tower to build from the bricks – it falls over behind the flap, and as for box, well it makes a great playhouse!
