That's not my train..., by Fiona Watt, illustrations by Rachel Wells
This is a well-produced book with strong board pages and
thoroughly wipe-clean surfaces. Set into the pages are foil to represent one train's shiny
windows, a piece of sandpaper for an old rusty engine, and some other unusual textures
until the end page when the appealing mouse character finds exactly the train he has been
looking for with a beautifully glossy red engine. The novelties are not there for
their own sake, but encourage children to think about and explore different textures and
materials.

Elmer's Bath, by David McKee
Ideal for when your child is starting for feel more confident about sitting
up in the water at bathtime and when you judge they're ready for a little more stimulus,
this bathbook about the patchwork elephant should prove entertaining. It's washable,
non-toxic, and waterproof, and not only does it have a squeak set into the first page,
there's also a little plastic receptacle where water can be sucked in and squirted out.
The story goes like this: Elmer and the animals gather together to have a bath outdoors,
but when they reach the water, Elmer asserts his independence and decides to have a shower
instead using his wonderfully flexible trunk
Mum of a fourteen month-old comments: "I'm not so sure I keep getting
squirted in the eyes but my daughter loves it! It floats."
