FAVE RAVE
Ten Seeds by Ruth Brown
The illustrations in this title make you feel like you are lying with your head touching the soil. A young boy plants ten sunflower seeds in the ground, but nature runs its course and as insects and animals all take an interest, only one young shoot is left. Of course, one seed is all that's needed for growing a sunflower, and this blossoms and makes ten more seeds to start again. "My son likes this book, each time we read it he wants to go into the garden" says one dad of a 16-month-old. "And yes, we bought the sunflower seeds, too."

HONOURABLE MENTION

What Do You Like To Wear? written by Hannah Reidy and illustrated by Emma Dodd
Colours, textures and shapes are some of the themes running through this fun book on favourite clothes. Every child has her own favourites - help her to pick out which she'd like. As well as the more familiar words your child is used to hearing when you're dressing her, such as 'jumper' or 'trousers', this descriptive book will help introduce your child to new words, too, such as 'itchy' or 'striped'. The large, friendly illustrations will appeal to young 'readers'.
