Easier than expected!

One babyworld member had an easier time giving birth to her twins than she imagined! At least my husband wasn't shocked

When I was eight weeks pregnant, my husband and I found out it was going to be twins! I was so shocked but Hubby wasn't! He kept going on about me having twins!

When I was about 23 weeks pregnant, I started having mild contractions, so they put me on meds to stop them. It seemed to work, thank God. Towards the end of the pregnancy, I was so big and miserable that, at 36 weeks, I started begging to be induced! The Dr said that he wanted me to go to 38 weeks but I was already 5cm dilated. I was so afraid that I would go into labour and not be able to get the epidural.

Everyone had taken the day off

I went in for my 37-week check and I was still 5cm dilated … no change. The midwife decided to sweep my membranes but that didn't help either! I was back at the Dr's at 38 weeks and, you guessed it, still no change! Luckily, the Dr decided he would induce the next day.

At 8am the next day I went into hospital and they gave me a drug to start labour. I had to stay in bed for an hour after that, which I didn't feel helped at all. When I was allowed up, I walked for a couple hours, with my whole family there. There was still no effect. I talked to the nurse and she told me that if that didn't work they would try something else in the morning.

I was so upset. I had everyone there waiting and most had taken the day off work. I went back to my room with my girlfriend and decided to eat a sandwich. It was around 12:30pm and I had just finished eating when I felt the first contraction. Everyone was coming in and out of my room! About 1:00pm, I knew something was going on so I called the nurse. She came in and helped me get into the bed and called the Dr. I wanted my epidural! I knew I didn't want to do this naturally as I had had a 26-hour natural birth with my first son.

The OR wasn't ready for me!

Finally I got the epidural I wanted so badly. Instant relief! They wanted me to rest as they were getting the operation room ready - all twin births are supposed to be done in there in case of emergency.

A little after 3.00pm, I felt the urge to push. The OR wasn't ready for me so people were rushing around me - doctors, nurses and equipment. I had to deliver in the room! My sister and girlfriend were stuck in the room as they couldn't move, so they got to witness the whole thing.

Two babies in two pushes!

I started pushing and, in two pushes, Dakota Kenneth was born at 3:55pm, weighing in at 5lbs 7.5 ozs. I think Kaleigh was in a hurry to get here and pushed him out! She was born the next push! Kaleigh Marie was born at 3:59pm and weighed 5lbs 7.2. It was such a relief after they were born healthy and naturally, with no complications. We all left the hospital together two days after birth and that was when the fun really began.

Thanks for listening to my positive birth story. My twins are now energetic three-year-olds and I survived!
