I'd do it all again tomorrow!

Member Poppies shares her experience of a planned C-section, under a general anaesthetic, with us. I felt very calm

I was booked in for an elective C-section on Thursday 22 April, as my baby was in breech position.

The big day came, and I must admit I was very calm, not at all nervous, maybe a little excited about finally meeting my baby. After getting changed into the oh-so-stunning gown, a midwife came to shave my 'down-below' bit (lovely) and check my blood pressure etc.

There was no sign of my partner

I was then informed I was first on the list for theatre. At 9.00am there was no sign of my partner so I decided that I would walk down to theatre, in the hope that he would turn up at the last minute. No chance. They decided to do another lady before me to give him some more time. Luckily he turned up just after the lady had been taken down to theatre.

An hour later, I was given the call. I was even more excited now. I was to have a spinal, so my partner was shown where he could change his clothes while they attempted to give me the spinal. Unfortunately it didn't work with me and, at 10.45am, they decided it would have to be a general anaesthetic for me. Without any time to really think about it, they laid me on the table, informed my partner of what was happening, and gave me the general. I was out in seconds. I had had a beautiful daughter

I woke up at 11.45am to be told I had had a beautiful daughter at 11.15am. We called her Emma-Jayne, she was 7lbs 4oz and was absolutely gorgeous.

It all happened so quickly, but I would go through it all again tomorrow.

Where to next?
