She's finally here
Sammyseal31 didn't think her forceps delivery was bad at all …
- I didn't think anything of it
- I spent the night in the bath
- At the mention of forceps, I didn't even bat an eyelid
- I couldn't believe she was finally here
I wasn't expecting Amelie to come on or before her due date but, as every day passed, I felt like this baby was never going to come! I had a date to be induced on the Monday but, lucky me, things started happening on the Saturday evening.
For about a week before I had her, I'd been having Braxton Hicks contractions on and off, so when I had some slight pains on Saturday afternoon I didn't think anything about it. By the evening, I'd been getting regular pains that were getting stronger and closer together so I started to think that, yeah, this must be it after all!
By 1am, I phoned the hospital as I'd been having contractions every 5 minutes for over 2 hours. They told me to come in so that they could see what was happening. When they examined me, though, I was only 1cm dilated so I went back home again. I was so disappointed but had kind of expected something like that. I started popping paracetamols like there was no tomorrow and spent the night in the bath!
At 11am the next morning, I just couldn't cope anymore but was still reluctant to go back to the hospital in case they sent my home again! However, I dragged my partner out of work and we went back again. I was convinced the midwife was going to send me home again so was really surprised when she took one look at me and said have some gas and air as you're staying here! When she examined I was even more surprised that I was nearly 6cm dilated and I hadn't had any pain relief at all! At this point, I started on the gas and air, which is great stuff, and even my partner Charlie had a go!
At the mention of forceps, I didn't even bat an eyelid
Things weren't going very fast and, at 2pm, I had my waters broken to speed things up a bit. However, they found my baby had had a poo inside me, which was horrid as my waters were all green! Even after that, I was still progressing slowly, so I had to have a hormone drip put in and then I had the urge to push even though I wasn't fully dilated.
By 6.30pm I'd been pushing for over an hour but the baby was coming slowly and I was getting tired, so they decided to do a ventouse delivery. I was just relieved by this point that it was going to be over soon and I was going to meet my baby at last. When the ventouse didn't work after the third attempt, I didn't bat an eyelid when I had to have a forceps delivery and an episiotomy. At 7.38pm, on Sunday 24th October, Amelie came into the world after that final push and was put on my tummy all wet and wriggly!
I couldn't believe she was finally here
She didn't stay there for long though as she didn't breathe at first and was whisked off to clear her airways and be given a bit of oxygen. In the meantime, I suddenly realised that there was about a million people in the room all looking incredibly busy and a doctor with her face about 2 inches away from my lady bits stitching me back up! After what felt like an eternity I got to hold my baby again, and just sat there looking at her and not believing that I wasn't pregnant anymore and she was finally here!
