Is your home suitable?

You do need to think about how practical it will be to give birth in your home:

  • Do you have a telephone?
  • Can your home be made warm and cosy?
  • Can you have quiet and privacy at home?
  • Can you arrange for other children to be looked after?
  • Are the bathroom and loo easy to get to? If the toilet is three flights up or shared with other people, you might have to think about using a commode
  • Is your partner happy with this decision? If not, it might undermine your confidence or cause problems between you. Allow plenty of time to discuss feelings about this plan
