| What to buy and when
Theres a lot to be said for getting your baby shopping out of the way before the
birth:
- As your due date approaches, theres a great feeling of relief if its all
done and youre as ready as you can be
- Your time will not be your own for the first few months, and organising shopping trips
to fit around sleeps and feeds can be tedious
- Most women feel well during the middle months of pregnancy, and this is the best time to
look around the shops. Later you may find you feel too big and tired to do much shopping
There are also some reasons for not buying everything early:
- You may buy things that you dont really need; your perspective and understanding
of baby essentials will change once youve got a baby of your own
- You may not be sure what your plans are for after the baby is born. Decisions about baby
equipment will be influenced by factors such as whether you are returning to work, and
even where you will be living
- You are bound to receive lots of presents from family, friends and workmates, before and
for some time after the birth
- Some women feel it is tempting fate to buy baby things before their baby is safely born
Most parents compromise and buy the basics before their baby is born and then see what
they are given and what else they need to buy after the birth.
Here are some things you might consider buying.
