Immunisation
Immunisation is the safest and most effective way to protect your child
against life-threatening disease. The vaccination programme has all but
eradicated some potentially dangerous illnesses. Smallpox is an example
of a disease that is now a thing of the past in the UK.
As more children are immunised, these diseases become much rarer. It’s
easy to think that they are no longer a threat. But in reality, if immunisation
levels fall, these diseases will become common again. There have been
outbreaks of measles since the MMR scare and immunisation levels dropped.
An immunised child is a protected child who also helps to protect other
children by preventing the disease being passed on.
